| | Winter's Solstice: Silver Anniversary Edition CD (2001) Silver Anniversary Edt
Peanuts & Ice Cream CD music
$6.15 This is part of Windham Hill Records "A Winter Solstice" series.
One of the most well known productions of the Windham Hill label, which basically invented new age music but prefers the term "contemporary instrumental," has been the WINTER'S SOLSTICE series. Perhaps inspired by the season-based recordings of George Winston, the SOLSTICE albums (which feature tunes from a variety of the label's artists) have always been not Christmas albums per se, but winter albums. Of course, a few Yuletide-oriented tunes do find their way onto this, the anniversary edition of the first volume in the series, but for the most part these are agreeable sonic meditations on a wintry state of mind by the likes of Barbara Higbie, Liz Story, and label honcho Will Ackerman himself. If you listen close enough, you can almost hear the snow falling.
Includes liner notes by Dawn Atkinson.
Personnel: Will Ackerman, Steve Erquiaga, Tim Ellis (guitar); W.G. Snuffy Walden ...
| | 2562 Unbalance CD (2009)
Peanuts & Ice Cream music CDs
$12.84 Dave Huisman's first 2562 album, Aerial, contained a handful of certifiably massive dubstep tracks, but the album was sometimes skeletal to a fault -- not quite featureless, yet dangerously close to it, more akin to a second-tier release from a dub ...

| | Ben Frost By The Throat CD (2009)
Peanuts & Ice Cream album
$13.58 With 2007's Theory of Machines, composer Ben Frost combined academically constructed electro-acoustic music, doom metal, post-rock drones, and minimal classical touches with strings and piano. It was a difficult yet clearly intoxicating listening experience. The melding of clinical technology and human elements -- i.e., real instruments -- as a way of bringing the listener in made it nearly unbearable, but so utterly original that it compelled one to engage it. The only act close to this was Coil at their early best. By the Throat is, if anything, even more so, though the manner of construction is very different -- even if many of the same elements are used. This time the approach -- which is clear by the title and the pack of wolves in a snowstorm on the cover -- is in reverse. On By the Throat he uses far more organic textures as a base, whether they be from animal or human worlds, layering electronics ...

Peanuts & Ice Cream songs
$12.65 With clever lyrics and lush arrangements of guitars, synthesizers and layered vocal, Jane X creates a fanciful musical dreamscape on which tales are told of lost loves, drowning weather reporters, Chinatown buses, boys on cell phones, jaded shut-ins, bohemian mansions, super-eight heroes, sleeping princes and mischievous ladies. The Mystery of Jane XLittle is known about Jane X. Her identity is closely guarded by her family for reasons discussed below. We do know she lives a very private and reclusive life at her old family home in rural New England. There, alone in her small home recording studio, over the course of many years, she wrote and recorded hundreds of songs, playing all the guitar, bass, and keyboard parts herself. We know that Jane X attended college and played in a rock band in New York City in the mid-1990s but suffered a nervous breakdown. ...
