| one of the best films of the year
Rachel getting married is one of the best movies of 2008. The film is about a young woman named Kym (Anne Hathaway) who is getting out of rehab to go to her sister Rachel's (rosemarie dewitt) wedding. While there,she,her dad (bill irwin) ,and rachel clash and everybody gets more and more angry at Kym for drawing too much attention away from the wedding. Debra winger is superb as Kym and Rachel's mother who is totally in denial about a deep tragedy long ago in which Kym had a hand in. By the movie's end,you are totally absorbed by the story and you feel like you've been at a real wedding. Rosemarie Dewitt is terrific as Rachel,but the best performance by far is Anne Hathaway's. Hathaway gives an astonishing, emotionally devastating performance,which is one of the best performances of the year. Jenny Lumet's screenplay is masterful,very deserving of an oscar nomination,as is jonathan demme's direction which is superb. Rachel getting married is a movie that I highly reccomend and I hope that it will get the reconigtion it deserves.
