| | MGMT Time To Pretend CD MGMT Discography of CDs
In July of 2009, a year after MGMT broke out with Oracular Spectacular and became a household name for hipsters, Cantora Records re-released the duo's 2005 EP, Time to Pretend. Remastered by Greg Calibi, the disc includes the original versions of the singles "Kids" and "Time to Pretend," along with four tracks that didn't make the full-length. It's interesting to hear the hits before Dave Fridmann got his mitts on them and turned them from homemade laptop electro jams into explosive pop, and the other songs, "Boogie Down," "Destrokk," "Love Always Remains," and "Indie Rokkers" are pretty good, even if they aren't as huge as the cuts on Oracular Spectacular. ~ Jason Lymangrover
Personnel: Andrew Vanwyngarden (vocals, guitar); Ben Goldwasser (vocals).

Time To Pretend album
$32.85 This solo effort from Marillion frontman Steve Hogarth is a very entertaining disc that covers many musical styles. The music moves from playful to contemplative to pop to prog with a proficiency and ease that is quite impressive. The Marillion-isms are not exceptionally frequent here, but they really are not missed on this entertaining release. "H," as he likes to be called, is joined on this album by Dave Gregory, Richard Barbieri, Clem Burke, Chucho Merchan, and Luis Jardim, along with several additional musicians. ~ Gary Hill

| | MGMT Oracular Spectacular CD (2008)
Time To Pretend CD music
$7.99 On its 2008 major label debut, ORACULAR SPECTACULAR, the Brooklyn-based duo MGMT (aka Management) offers up a willfully quirky set that incorporates elements of both electro-pop and freak-folk. Consisting of singer/multi-instrumentalists Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, the playful act veers from the decadent, fuzzed-out "Time to Pretend" to the jangly, glam-tinged "Weekend Wars" to the funky, Ween-ish "Electric Feel," with renowned producer Dave Fridmann keeping everything from going too far off course, particularly on the catchy, synth-driven "Kids." The result is a restless and inventive first album that's guaranteed to garner hipster adoration, and, like fellow Big Apple-ites LCD Soundsystem, may also carry a wider appeal.
| | Iggy Pop Live In San Francisco 1981 CD (1986)
Time To Pretend music CDs
$9.49 The year 1981 was a bit of a creative trough, in a career of peaks and valleys, for Iggy Pop. But, poised between his pioneering proto-punk work with the Stooges and his later success as a cleaned-up and hard-working rock star, Pop nevertheless was still capable of putting on a captivating live show. This board mix from a gig supporting his album PARTY features songs from that album, as well as Stooges classics and some memorable riffing from guitarist Carlos Alomar. This CD also includes non-LP tracks produced in '83 by Ric Ocasek.
Iggy Pop, live and wild from 1981, plus two bonus tracks from a studio session with Ric Ocasek. Fronting a crack band featuring Blondie drummer Clem Burke and future David Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar, Pop is as unpredictable and dominant as ever. This is a soundboard recording, taped near the end of their tour supporting his 1981 album Party, Iggy and co. are raw and ready for business. The two bonus tracks are previously unreleased versions recorded with Ric Ocasek in 1983.
