Lamb of God: Randy Blythe (vocals); Mark Morton , Willie Adler (guitar); John Campbell (bass guitar); Chris Adler (drums). Audio Mixer: Josh Wilbur. Audio Remasterer: Brian Gardner . Recording information: Dizzyland, Rochester, NH; Electric Lady Studios; Sound Of Music, Richmond, VA; Studio Barbarosa, Bavon, VA. Virginia's Lamb of God follows up its Grammy-nominated fourth studio release, SACRAMENT, with an album that practically redefines the genre. WRATH is arguably the band's most inspired release since 2003's AS THE PALACES BURN. It may also be considered Lamb of God's METALLICA (THE BLACK ALBUM), not in tone but in production achievement. The album is incredibly focused and tight yet it retains all the characteristics that make Lamb of God a ferocious force on the metal scene. Riff-hooks ooze from each track and Randy Blythe's agonized roar acts as the linchpin that holds everything in place. Produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Avenged Sevenfold, Bloodsimple, Hatebreed), WRATH may very well become the standard by which all 2009 metal albums are judged. Lamb of God's follow-up to 2006's exceptionally brutal Sacrament returns the Virginia-based heavy metal outfit to the political soapbox that framed 2004's Ashes of the Wake. While Sacrament positioned itself firmly in the metalcore section of fan playlists, 2009's Wrath wraps itself in a relentless firestorm of Bay Area thrash. Despite a promising, heavily melodic instrumental intro ("The Passing") that fuses Black Album-era Metallica with the sonic artistry of Agalloch, Wrath ultimately descends into a black abyss of atonal riffing, machine-gun drumming, and forgettable lyrics peppered with clichéd metal outrage that stirs up a mighty storm, but no carnage. Wrath's production is as aggressive as ever (thanks to longtime LOG colleague Josh Wilbur), but so is nearly every major label alt/death/black/grindcore release in the 21st century -- all it takes is a few good choruses to separate a band from the herd, something that Lamb of God have done in the past, but not so this time around. The band does occasionally step outside of its comfort zone ("Grace" lives up to its name with some truly inspired early and midsong guitar work, while "Reclamation" mines epic, Sabotage-era Black Sabbath), and there's no denying the sheer "angry basement workout/summer garage weightlifting" potential that Wrath's perfectly acceptable 45-minute running time offers, but without a single hook that sticks around long enough to reel in the fish, all you've got is bait. ~ James Christopher MongerSpin (p.81) - "[T]he palm-mutes jackhammer riffs and Randy Blythe's elastic denunciations of liars, hypocrites, and lying hypocrites are frightfully precise." Entertainment Weekly (p.58) - "Randy Blythe's demonic bark, Adler's chain-gun rhythms, and the ferocious chug-chug-chug squeal riffing are all vintage Lamb of God." -- Grade: B+ Alternative Press (p.136) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[H]ighlights include 'Fake Messiah,' a bleak pummeling culmination point, and 'Reclamation,' which uses shreddy acoustics adn the sound of crashing waves to bring WRATH to a memorable close." Kerrang (Magazine) (p.52) - "Fast and furious, there are moments of unbridled fury not seen since the release of their AS THE PALACES BURN breatkthrough....Lamb Of God are a band firmly on top of their game." Record Collector (magazine) (p.96) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[S]ome of the new album matches, or even surpasses, the quality of SACRAMENT: it's cleaner and more atmospheric this time round, allowing the band's stunning musicianship to come through." Wrath Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews ass kickin great album Submitted by Pat (Chicago Il USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
My favorite metal album since Opeth's Deliverance I am not usually a fan of cookie monster vocals but this record is so tremendous from a musical standpoint that i can tolerate it. I have actually grown to like the vocals the more i have listened. As with most metal recordings today (Death magnetic being the worst case), this recording clips at times. Other than that, I love this record! Submitted by micah.conrad (NY, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Another great release A lot of people have been saying how this album is different than Gospel, Palaces, and AOTW...good!! Who wants a band to keep churning out the same stuff?! This album is damn heavy and has great riffs as well as a lot more guitar solos...go Mark and Willie!! It's a step in a different direction for Lamb of God, they have evolved a lot since Gospel. It's an exciting album to listen to, so I suggest picking it up and cranking the volume! Submitted by LIVEtoROCK86 (New Jersey, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Opinion I have been a fan their entire career and own all their merchandise; whether it is all their cd's, dvd's, shirts, etc. I can agree that their first few albums are what brought them on the map. That's what kickstarted their careers. It's because of their brutal originality; it's where they're at today! When "Sacrament" came out; I was blown away by the difference in the approach and much variation of sound, than their previous records. The entire album hit's hard! Many fans really liked it, while some fan's, always have to be a critique and ruin it for the rest of us loyal L.O.G. fans, and whine like little babies that need their diaper changed. Come on people; if you don't like the band, the genre, the sound...don't listen to it, don't compare them to other bands, such as Slipknot (since there is NO comparison!!!), and don't write a bad review so us real fans have to waste our times reading the trash! "Wrath" actually let me down though. Don't get me wrong...They all did an awesome job on the album! The production is great and I am excited they found a new producer, other than "Machine" but it just sounded like they rushed the album. I don't think they spent as much time on this album, as their previous releases. I really am excited to hear something NEW though! It's been since 06' since they released "Sacrament"! Hey; I'm not one to complain...the album is phenomenal....Overall; I would highly recommend ANY Metal fan to go out and purchase "Wrath" in stores NOW!!! It's well worth the money!

Lamb of God: Randy Blythe (vocals); Morton Mark, Willie Adler (guitar); John Campbell (bass instrument); Chris Adler (drums). Come now, let us all genuflect before Lamb of God, for to them we owe our metal souls. In the fat rat-infested, decrepit tenement called Heavy Rock Manor, the Virginia-based shock unit is one of the few groups striving to keep the power on and the hallways clear of gluttonous rap-rock/post-grunge False Marias. Yes, yes, Ashes of the Wake arrives via Epic Records, but this only will inflame the ire of the ignorant. For the rest of us, Lamb's ascendance to the majors melts a little more of the crap rock golden calf. Where previous efforts were fully automatic hot LZs, they were also slightly muddled for the very same reason. They fired in all directions. With Ashes, producer Machine has sharpened the corner ...

Wrath
$8.99 Lamb of God: Randy Blythe (vocals); Morton Mark, Willie Adler (guitar); John Campbell (bass guitar); Chris Adler (drums). Audio Mixer: Machine. Recording information: Sound Of Music, Richmond, VA; Spin Recording Studios, Long Island City, NY; The Machine Shop, Hoboken, NJ. The cult metal band's third major label album is a significant step forward in style and execution, with singer Randy Blythe's forceful vocals at their most guttural and drummer Chris Adler expertly steering the band through a dizzying variety of complex arrangements. The album's opener, "Walk With Me in Hell" sets the stage for a collection of dark, hyper-energized tracks, with the violent, rhythmically complex "Redneck" a particular highlight. Virginia metalcore kings Lamb of God get personal ...

| | Testament Formation Of Damnation CD (2008)
Wrath
$13.09 Testament: Alex Skolnick (guitar); Chuck Billy, Greg Christian, Paul Bostaph, Eric Peterson. Personnel: Chuck Billy (vocals); Eric Peterson (guitar); Greg Christian (bass guitar); Paul Bostaph (drums, cymbals). Nine long years since their last studio album of new material (1999's THE GATHERING), Testament returned with a brutally melodic set fittingly titled THE FORMATION OF DAMNATION. Vocalist Chuck Billy's winning battle with cancer inspired most of the group's original lineup to reconvene, with the exception of the ever-changing drum throne occupied here by former Forbidden/Slayer member Paul Bostaph. Lyrically, the Bay Area thrash legends are well-known for tackling ...
| | Metallica Death Magnetic CD (2008)
Wrath
$15.65 Metallica: James Hetfield (vocals, guitar); Kirk Hammett (guitar); Robert Trujillo (bass guitar); Lars Ulrich (drums). The world at large got a fly-on-the-wall view of the creation of Metallica's 2003 album, ST. ANGER, via the documentary SOME KIND OF MONSTER, so we know they consciously tried to keep things contemporary at that time by avoiding fleet-fingered solos and eschewing the sound of the "old" Metallica. If that hoary old term "return to form" ever applied to a rock album, though, it's ANGER's follow-up, DEATH MAGNETIC. In the five years between the two releases, Metallica seem to have gotten back in touch with the raw power of their classic period, with a little help from legendary producer Rick Rubin. One listen to the 10-minute epic "Suicide & Redemption" with its mix ...
| | God Forbid Earthsblood CD (2009) Bonus CD
Wrath
$13.09 God Forbid: Byron Davis (vocals). Personnel: Dallas Coyle (vocals, guitar); Doc Coyle (guitar, background vocals); John Outcalt (bass guitar); Corey Pierce (drums). Audio Mixer: Jens Bogren. Arranger: God Forbid. Four years after the release of the band's last conceptual effort, IV: CONSTITUTION OF TREASON, the New Jersey quintet God Forbid roars back with EARTHSBLOOD. Possibly their most refined work to date, God Forbid's fifth studio release incoporates ample doses of bordering-on-progressive experimentation and melody, but they still remain grounded with deep grooves and rebellious vocal runs. EARTHSBLOOD was produced by Eric Rachel (Atreyu, The Black Dahlia Murder, Sinai Beach) and mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, ...

$18.99 Who is this N-Side? I never heard of him? Where did he come from?He is Norman Woods aka N-Side. N-Side is a performing jazz/poet, screenwriter and music publisher from the S.F. Bay area. A native of Berkeley, California, he has always had an aspiration to be an artist of some description and has always supported the arts in some way emotionally, financially and resourcefully. Some say he has seen it all. From Jimi Hendrix plays Berkeley to the Silicon Valley explosion. In his own word he would say, " seen a lot, heard a lot, done a lot, had fun a lot and everything in between! You can believe that! From Vietnam anti-war protest to rainy days of homelessness, trust him when he says he has a story to tell and has always found a way to smile through "Hard Times on Planet Earth" one of his early soon to be re-releses never promoted recordings on Shalamar Records When asked why? N-Side says with a smile, "listen to the track "The tribe" where I say: do you think we can do this?" Well, the answer is yes. And you can hear this on his latest CD: "Three Voices ...
