2009 collection from the Bay Area Folk rockers. We Five were the highest charting act to emerge from San Francisco until the rise of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their summer 1965 smash, 'You Were On My Mind', was as important as 'Mr. Tambourine Man' in introducing the public to the notion of Folk-Rock. This collection draws upon the group's three albums for A&M, mostly produced under the careful auspices of Frank Werber's Trident Productions, as well as featuring rare gems such as the non-LP single 'There Stands The Door' and a host of previously unissued sides. Produced with full co-operation from the group's members and illustrated with many rarely-seen photos, There Stands The Door - The Best Of We Five is an essential purchase for any lover of mid-60s Pop. Ace.
We Five were 1960s California folk-rockers, best known for their hit version of Ian & Sylvia's "You Were On My Mind." THERE STANDS THE DOOR is surely the definitive anthology of their career, containing not only key tunes from their albums but a wealth of bonus tracks. The group's harmonies and mixture of acoustic picking and rock rhythms represented a sort of halfway point between the commercial folk sound of groups like the Kingston Trio and the more intense, adventurous work of the Byrds and their ilk. It's captured here in all its glory with a package that will please both hardcore fans and newcomers.
We Five: Bev Bevan (vocals).
Record Collector (magazine) (p.104) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "We Five were talented, with Bev Bivens' strident, confident vocals and Michael Stewart's songwriting. Their imaginative vocal arrangements recalled The Association and Mamas & Papas..." There Stands The Door: The Best Of We Five CD music
$16.45 Dan Rockett’s need to explore music as a child was a natural obsession. From Neil Young’s “Sugar Mountain” to The Beatles “Strawberry Fields Forever”, he was engrossed by the powerful combination of lyric and melody. He began playing drums when he was seven, and then later switched to guitar in high school. While at Boston College, earning degrees in Literature, Secondary Education, Philosophy, and Theology, Dan’s true passion became apparent as he began writing his own songs. As a respected figure in the Boston music scene, he would find himself sharing the stage with some of his favorite artists such as, Los Lobos, The Flaming Lips, Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Al Kooper, G. Love, Medeski Martin and Wood, Stevie Nicks…etc. He would even front an All Star Tribute to Bob Marley, which performed three very special sold out shows. With Dan on lead vocals the band also included the legendary jazz drummer Bob Moses, Guitarists Vernon Reid of Living Colour and Eric Krasno of Soulive, bassist ...
