Cantor Wally Cantor Wally CD (2009)
Händel: Israel in Egypt; Zadok the Priest; The King Shall Rejoice Now that I am an active Reform Jewish adult, I realize that my most positive Jewish and identity-building experiences were formed at one of the Reform Movement's youth camps, URJ (Union for Reform Judaism, formerly UAHC) Camp Newman / Camp Swig (formerly just Camp Swig). There, among the giant redwood trees, I felt holiness in the music we made. It was the music that marked moments of the day, from prayer services to campfires, from Birkat Hamazon (grace after meals) to formal youth choirs that effectively drew me into being Jewish. It was the singing that gave me moments of 'religious consciousness,' that taught me and my fellow campers some basic Hebrew, that helped us express our feelings as teenagers and that we took with us back home. I also attribute my decision to become a cantor to the music - my affection for it, connection to it, and desire to pass it on to youth.
Music, as it has been popularized among Reform youth, and its style have had a tremendous effect on the Jewish world. The undercurrent that moved the songs in the youth movement is breaking as waves on the shores of today's progressive synagogues. The growing trend of incorporating participatory musical style into the synagogue service grew out of the creative liturgy of the youth camps. Singing Jewish music as a community of voices decreases the distance between leader and congregation. When this CD was first released in 1997, I said that "the use of folk guitar in the religious school, in the youth service and at times in adult worship is increasing." How much the more so is that true today!
With the addition of these original songs to the American Jewish repertoire, it is my hope that Jewish ideas can be made more accessible to all, that the text can find a youthful voice through the music, and that Jewish issues can be even more meaningful or more fun through the medium of song.
L'shalom,
Cantor Wally
P.S. Listen for Julie Silver, Cantor Jordan Franzel, Cantor David Perper, Cantor Lori Salzman, and Craig Rosen, who also sing on this CD!

Linfords Cowboys Are Dreamers CD (2009)
Händel: Israel in Egypt; Zadok the Priest; The King Shall Rejoice The Linfords are life long musicians from Wyoming. They were born and raised in the west and their music truly reflects their roots. Cal and Teddy are a performing duo that make their homes in beautiful Star Valley. Performing since they were very young, they bring a sound to their listeners that is original and somehow familiar as they weave their stories and experiences around real down to earth music and harmony. They invite you to join them as they share with you some of themselves.

Vladimir Ashkenazy / Beethoven Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 21 'Waldstein'; Piano Sonata No. 29 'Hammerklavier' CD (2010)
Händel: Israel in Egypt; Zadok the Priest; The King Shall Rejoice The two sonatas featured on this release charted unprecedented paths of sonority and virtuosity, although the musical and pianistic aims radically differ. Vladimir ashkenazy re-recorded them both, the 'hammerklavier' for his complete beethoven sonata cycle, and the 'waldstein' as a digital remake for a separate cd. The rare and much sought-after 1967 recording of the 'hammerklavier' - vladimir ashkenazy's first of any beethoven sonata for decca - is sharply delineated and full of tensile energy, the fugal finale's gnarlier sequences more incisively articulated than his later remake.

Ivan Sokolnikov Semiramide's Reformation CD (2008)
Händel: Israel in Egypt; Zadok the Priest; The King Shall Rejoice Rossini\'s Semiramide Overture is an ambitious work with an unusually large opera orchestra. The score calls for a loud brass section of 4 horns, 2 trombones 2 trumpets and a bass horn. The woodwinds are augmented with a piccolo. There is tympani and even a bass drum.
The subject of the libretto is tragic so the opera is classed as opera seria. The text is serious but what about the music? Rossini\'s writing here may be darker than in his comic operas, but however long and heavy the overture, still the effect is more light than dark. Nowhere is the overture as serious as Beethoven. Beethoven is at his lightest in the 1st and 8th symphonies. Still he is more serious there than the Rossini overture. Beethoven at his lightest is still more serious than Rossini at his darkest.
The prominence of the piccolo part leads one to believe that Rossini\'s opera-house orchestra must have included a virtuoso piccolo player.
Cyberchambermusic began work on Semiramide in the summer of 2002. Progress was slow. The score is difficult to sequence. Also the density of the orchestration taxed the computer processors to crashing exhaustion. This project caused us to abandon Windows and convert to a Power Mac G5 dual-processor for recording.
Now the project is complete after 6 years.
***
At the time maestro Ivan Sokolnikov joined cyberchambermusic, we were ready to publish Beethoven\'s Eighth Symphony, the 3rd movement.
Maestro wanted to wait and redo it. But, alas, we could not find our midi file. So we published it as is. Then the midi file turned up on an obscure disk.
Maestro redid it. So the version here is number 2.
***Cyberchambermusic regards Prokofiev\'s 1st Piano Concerto as his most beautiful music. Also his 1st violin concerto. These youthful works were never equaled or surpassed.
Of course, a concerto gives the soloist a means to display his skill. But this movement is less a concerto than a wonderful orchestral piece where one of the instruments happens to be a piano.
***
The 3rd movement of Mendelssohn\'s \"Reformation\" Symphony is a thrilling piece. Somehow, there is an Italian flavor. More so though, there is the wonderfully evanescent, frothy quality as in his incidental music to \"A Midsummer Night\'s Dream\".
