The Eloquent Fish Ensemble -- This unique ensemble came into being in Tokyo when shakuhachi virtuoso Toshiya Mizukawa and jazz pianist Ron Hadley organized the group to perform Mr. Hadley's compositions and to continue intercultural projects on which they had been collaborating. The ensemble is an amalgamation of the Sagami Traditional Music Duo(koto and shakuhachi) and the Ron Hadley Quartet (piano, bass, drums and saxophones). In addition to presenting original compositions and arrangements of traditional Japanese pieces, ensemble members perform authentic Hōgaku (traditional Japanese music) as well as material drawn from the standard jazz repertoire. Workshops and lecture/demonstrations dealing with the two fields of Japanese music and jazz (as well as how these fields might be combined) are an important part of the group's schedule.Jazz Meets Hōgaku -- This CD is a studio recording made in Richmond, British Columbia in October, 2007 during a British Columbia tour by the ensemble. Lic. Gonzalo Teppa, Magíster en MúsicaGonzalo Teppa, Contrabajista y compositor venezolano. Inicia su carrera musical a la edad de diez años en el Conservatorio de Música Vicente Emilio Sojo. Comienza estudios de contrabajo con el profesor Luis Guillermo Pérez. En julio de 1995, en Santander, España, recibe clases de este mismo instrumento con el eminente maestro Ludwing Streicher. Regresa a Caracas, donde continúa y culmina sus estudios de contrabajo con el profesor Néstor Blanco en el Conservatorio de Música Simón Bolívar. Obtiene el título de Licenciado en Música, mención ejecutante del contrabajo, en la prestigiosa Universidad de Colorado, en Boulder, con el maestro contrabajista Paul Erhard. Realizó una maestría en pedagogía del jazz y contrabajo en la misma Universidad, donde estudió contrabajo con el maestro Mark Simon. Se desempeñó como docente por tres años en la Universidad de Colorado en el área de improvisación y teoría del jazz.Fue solista del coro infantil Niños Cantores de Lara, bajo la dirección de la profesora Carmen Alvarado. Desde 1991 hasta 1995 fue miembro de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Lara y en septiembre de 1995, ingresó a la fila de contrabajos de la Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar donde permaneció durante siete años. En abril de 2003, gana la competencia como mejor instrumentista en la Universidad de Colorado, teniendo el honor de tocar como solista, con la Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad, el concierto clásico del compositor Giovanni Bottesini para contrabajo y orquesta. En marzo del 2004 y 2005 es galardonado como Mejor Solista del Año en los Estados Unidos, por la prestigiosa revista Downbeat Magazine, especializada en jazz. En abril de 2004 y 2005 es premiado como mejor solista en el festival de jazz, realizado en la ciudad de Greely, Colorado.
