Everyday All Day
$10.59 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned with THE E.N.D. (an acronym for "Energy Never Dies"), their third studio effort. Combining Will.I.Am's thumping 808 kick drum-infused beats with production assistance from a host of collaborators (including vocoder-loving Torontoians MSTRKRFT and French house ...

| | Drumline CD (2002) Original Soundtrack
Everyday All Day
$7.59 While the film DRUMLINE is based around a group of youngsters who play in a marching band at a Southern college, there's not much drum-corps music on the soundtrack. In keeping with the pop-cultural milieu of the film, most of this disc is occupied by contemporary hip-hop and R&B tracks. On the one hand, there are frothy soul concoctions from young sirens such as Nivea, Alicia Keys, and Syleena Johnson. On the other, there are hard-hitting rap cuts by Petey Pablo, JC Chasez, Too Short, and others. Other than a brief percussive foray at the top of the track listing, the actual marching-band music is saved for two cuts at the end, whose swinging polyrhythms dip heavily into funk and hip-hop, serving to remind that modern-day drum majors are anything but square.
Original score composed by John Powell.
Trick Daddy/J.Dupri/S.Johnson/ Nick Cannon/Joe/Nivea/P.Pablo
Personnel: Francesco Romano (guitar); Cesar Guevara, Debra Killings, Jasper DaFatso, Jazze Pha, Syleena Johnson, Tony Reyes (background vocals).

| | Lil Wayne Tha Carter III - Explicit Version CD (2005) Explicit
Everyday All Day
$10.75 A one-time member of New Orleans's Hot Boys, rapper Lil Wayne attained a new level of confidence and skill on 2004's THA CARTER. That album featured only a few guest shots (as opposed to typically star-studded hip-hop records), and this 2005 sequel once again keeps things focused on Wayne, with the MC flying solo on almost every track. This uncluttered scenario, which relies on a spare, yet distinctly Cash Money-style musical backdrop, gives Wayne the freedom to let his laid-back rhymes stretch out, as best revealed on the ominous "Fireman" and the boastful "Best Rapper Alive." Clearly Wayne knows how to work a winning concept, since THA CARTER II stays true to both its predecessor and the relentless, unapologetic spirit of Southern rap.
Although his first studio album in three years has been long-awaited and repeatedly delayed, Lil Wayne has been anything but absent. Since THA CARTER II, Weezy has left an impressive mass of recordings--from mixtapes (authorized and otherwise) to guest appearances--in his wake as he blusters through the rap industry. In the third installment of the THA CARTER series, Wayne shows he's earned the right to ego-trip as he lets his off-kilter flow, freak-out lyrics, and vocal acrobatics run wild over 16 tracks. Scaling the heights of hubris on "Dr. Carter," he plays an MC/doctor treating a certain music genre diagnosed as lifeless and closes with a quintessential Weezy snarl: "Welcome back hip-hop/I saved your life." Wayne then shifts to alien-mode for the E.T.-inspired "Phone Home." Later on, he details ...
| | War All Day Music CD (1971)
Everyday All Day
$9.75 The album that paved the way for War's commercial success, 1971's ALL DAY MUSIC is a laid-back slice of genuine California funk. Modeled on the aesthetic of musically and racially integrated bands Santana and Sly & the Family Stone, War knocked down many boundaries separating genres. Soul, rock, Latin, blues, and funk all make their way into the mix here, and while the group's later records would groove harder, there is a sunny mellowness to this album that evokes the palm trees and balmy breezes of the ensemble's native Los Angeles.
Because War was primarily a jam collective, their producer Jerry Goldstein hit upon a brilliant strategy on ALL DAY MUSIC by recording as the band played and developed ...
