Black & White; Standard Screen; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Director's Comments AMAZING MR. X: A grieving widow falls victim to the machinations of a so-called spiritualist, who knows more than he should about her marriage and the death of her husband. One of the most sumptuous examples of "supernatural noirs" ever committed to film, this romantic mystery about a phony charlatan and the beautiful women who come under his power is one of cinematographer John Alton's crowning achievements.
REIGN OF TERROR: The French Revolution is given the noir treatment in this 1949 entry from director Anthony Mann. The hunt is on for Robespierre's black book, listing the victims headed toward the guillotine. Famed cinematographer John Alton lays the shadows over the paranoia-fillled proceedings. Classic Film Noir - Volume 3 DVD
$14.59 Philadelphia indie-psych drone masters Bardo Pond return with a new double CD offering comprised of 17 rare and unreleased tracks that have previously only been available in limited numbers as CD-Rs at the band's live shows. Selections is the band's 7th full-length release, and documents the highlights of their career, remastered and repackaged by ATP Recordings. 2005.
Philadelphia space rockers Bardo Pond pulled together a collection of rare tracks that were previously available only on CDR's sold at their shows. While oddities and B-sides compilations are often hit and miss, Bardo Pond managed to keep the filler level low and instead released a double-disc that provides a fantastic overview of their long career. Formed in the mid- 90s by brothers John and Michael Gibbons, the band never broke big but developed a core cult following. While their sound, replete with droning guitars and hushed vocals, hasn't changed much ...

$47.59 42ND STREET: Splashy Hollywood does splashy Broadway in this behind-the-scenes of a show musical. The leading lady is, as many times before, suddenly unavailable and the understudy chorus girl is thrust into the limelight. Last minute preparations for opening night with the new star turn the entire production on its ear before the big premiere.
DAMES: This backstage musical features dancing ironing boards and puzzle pieces amongst its surreal delights. Blondell, Keeler and Powell sing, dance and chew up the scenery in a hoary plot about a rich bluenose's attempts to close down a Broadway show. Never mind. Just keep your eyes on those chorus lines in numbers such as "Girl at the Ironing Board," and "I Only Have Eyes for You."
FOOTLIGHT PARADE: A stage producer discovers that talking pictures have killed the demand for musical shows, so he re-channels his talents into creating live musical numbers for movie theaters to present between features. His fledgling business is threatened by unscrupulous business partners, conniving golddiggers, and spying competitors.
GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933: A classic 1930s musical, GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933 offers some of Busby Berkeley's most spectacular choreography. The gold diggers are out-of-work showgirls Carol, Polly, and Trixie, played respectively by Joan Blondell, ...

$10.25 Sturgess has the voice, charm, and good looks to fill Shea Stadium with hordes of screaming young women. As Jude, he's earnest and certainly capable of carrying the film. Wood capably balances Lucy's naiveté and knowledge, easily moving between her love for Jude and her passion for her cause. Though the performances are strong, it's Taymor's gifted direction that makes ACROSS THE UNIVERSE so fascinating to watch. As in FRIDA and Broadway's THE LION KING, she proves herself an artist with creativity few can match. Director of photography Bruno Delbonnel also deserves praise for his contribution to the striking visuals. He has worked with Jean-Pierre Jeunet on AMELIE and A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT, and he brings the same sense of romance and whimsy to this unique musical.
