Although South African quartet BLK JKS have been making music for nearly a decade, they have only recently begun to garner the acclaim they deserve via a handful of recorded songs. Still, the recent buzz about the band pronounced "Black Jacks" can be filed in the "better late than never" category. The MYSTERY EP incorporates African drumming and a dub sensibility, but highly danceable vibe has also garnered the quartet frequent comparisons to TV On The Radio.

Purchase Mystery CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Fridge Happiness CD (2001)
Mystery album
$12.19 Although capable of making fascinating tracks, the British trio Fridge seemingly can't bother tempering its experimental inclinations enough to make a solid, enjoyable full-length. Slightly more difficult than 1999's EPH, Happiness presents nine tracks of alternately beautiful, alternately boring sound experiments disguised as songs. Titles like "Melodica and Trombone" and "Tone ...
| | M Ward Post-War CD (2006)
Mystery CD music
$12.19 The title of M. Ward's fifth full-length, POST-WAR, begs the question, post which war? From early 20th-century folk blues to Tin Pan Alley hooks to the various indie-rock schools of the early 2000s, Ward's music works as a suitable elegy for the wounded and dead from across the landscape of American history. Equipped with a voice that is at once rough-hewn and tender, Ward sings about trials of the heart and the soul with a lyrical approach that is touching, evocative, and poetically cryptic. And while his songs can recall the rustic, bluesy charm of a train-hopping troubadour ("Rollercoaster;" "Requiem"), lush studio touches, including a lovely use of reverb (particularly on the haunting opener "Poison Cup" ), and guest appearances from new-fangled roots artists such as Neko Case and My Morning Jacket's Jim James mark the album as very much of its era. POST-WAR places Ward ...
| | Swan Lake Beast Moans CD (2006)
Mystery music CDs
$12.19 Hot on the heels of contemporaneous breakthroughs for all its members' other bands, Swan Lake capitalized on its indie supergroup status and branched out with BEAST MOANS. Comprised of Dan Bejar from Destroyer, Spencer Krug from Wolf Parade, and Carey Mercer from Frog Eyes, the band meshes ...
| | Clinic Visitations CD (2006) Deluxe Version
Mystery songs
$13.99 Four albums in--an eternity in British rock--Clinic must be considered among the greatest bands in the U.K. VISITATIONS continues their string of classics which began with 2000's INTERNAL WRANGLER. Unlike most indie bands, whose production values tend to get more whitewashed as the budgets grow, Clinic retains the specialness of their debut's sound--a menacing organ pulse and murky production--while molding the eeriness into hummable Brit-pop.
The results are astonishing: "If You Could Read Your Mind" sounds like a late '80s Manchester groove dragged through the sewer; singer Ade Blackburn's exasperated moans offer no definitive answer to the philosophical questions posed in "Animal/Human;" "Gideon" chugs with ...
| | Holy Fuck LP CD (2007)
Mystery album
$12.19 Toronto-based electro noise squad Holy Fuck specialize in the kind of unholy racket worthy of their expletive-brandishing moniker. Finely honing their live electronics-aided lo-fi "motorik" for their second album, LP, the band wields overdriven Casiotones against steady-state beats set for oblivion. Upon an insistent, groove-heavy pulse that recalls the hypnotic propulsion of Krautrock outfits like Neu! and Harmonia, HF grafts blistering shards of distorted synth bleat and fractal-chaos effects, creating the kind of psych-noise mayhem that's atypical in the techno-rock fraternity. While tracks like the high-octane opener "Super Inuit" hazard a course midway between noise improvisation and garage punk, others like the nearly-symphonic ...
| | RTX JJ Got Live Ratx CD (2008)
Mystery CD music
$12.69 The third album by ex-Royal Trux Jennifer James Herrema and co. is down and dirty, straight-ahead rock & roll, but with an unabashedly hair-metal edge. "You Should Shut Up" commences things with a TalkBox, arena-glam synths, crisp guitar leads, and metallic riffs that aren't a far cry from Slaughter and Cinderella. But if either group possessed Herrema's "get the hell out of my way" spitfire instead of pretty-boy falsetto-mining, that entire era may have escaped with its reputation intact. ...
| | Anna Puccinelli Elements CD (2006)
Mystery music CDs
$18.99 Awaken the Senses.Soothe the Spirit. Stimulate the Mind. Elements has an uncanny ability to connect with listeners. Perhaps that's because it was written at a pivotal period in Anna's life. While coping with her mother's diagnosis of Alzheimer's and an existential crisis of her own, the compositions on this CD literally poured out of her. The result is a musical tapestry of rich emotions and haunting melodies. If there is one resounding theme in Elements, it is hope.'...I put track 8 on repeat and wrote to it for two hours. '--David Gordon Green, Director of critically-acclaimed film George Washington'...I haven't heard anything like this in 10 years. '--William Stiles, Conductor/Former Juilliard Professor'...Anna's music is incredible. '--Janisse Ray, Author of Ecology of a Cracker Childhood'...it sent me to 'another place''--Dianne Kern, Occupational Therapist'...very moving...great therapy. '--Leslie Cleaver, LCSWAnna began studying classical music at age eight, and was the recipient of both the IVS and Chicago Academy for the Arts scholarships. Currently residing in Chicago, she has performed at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, Around the Coyote Festival, Sulzer Library, and numerous other venues. ...
