It was in the winter of 2004 that Australian saxophonist Nick Hempton stumbled off a plane at JFK airport in New York, and made his way back into that hotbed of modern jazz- Manhattan. He immediately embarked upon a game of musical "Cull-or-Keep", sizing up the many and abundantly talented rhythm-section players on offer. The goal: to assemble a group of musicians whose talent, experience, originality, and ability to communicate was unequaled, let alone surpassed. This is how it happened... The first step was the rekindling of Nick's musical relationship with drummer Dan Aran. The two had performed regularly at informal sessions at Arturo's restaurant in Greenwich Village, and shared a similar musical philosophy. The band Whiskey Train formed in Medford, NJ, in June of 2006, when vocalist/guitarist Kenny Curcio decided to put some songs he had written on CD. Instead of recording himself with a guitar, he opted to bring in some instrumental help to give his musical ideas more depth.Kenny found assistance in multi-talented piano/percussion player Johnny DeAngelis. At a very young age, Johnny played several years in his fathers cover band, and his passion for music was unmistakable. After recording a six song demo, and receiving vast positive feedback, they decided to form a band and continue to write their own music. In July of 2006, lead guitar player, and former jazz musician, Dominic Grosso was asked to join the band.
