Katie Melua Collection album
$66.99 There's a reason why Frank Sinatra and Las Vegas are so closely linked: Ol' Blue Eyes was supremely comfortable in Sin City, allowing for many of his greatest performances over the decades, as revealed on this excellent 2006 four-CD/one-DVD collection of previously unreleased material. While the first two discs present Sinatra at the Sands during his 1960s heyday, the third and fourth discs consist of '80s concerts. Naturally, the '60s recordings find the Chairman of the Board in top form, as the deep-voiced crooner breezes through jazz/pop classics such as "Moonlight in Vermont" and "Come Fly with Me," the latter part of a remarkable set with Count Basie and his orchestra. However, the '80s shows are also impressive, revealing that Sinatra could still stun an audience late in his storied career, a notion further backed up by video footage of a swinging late-'70s concert at Caesar's Palace.
Experience The Chairman at his pulse-pounding best in this 4-CD/1-DVD boxed set of unforgettable live performancesin Las Vegas, all previously unreleased. The DVD features his concert at Caesar's Palace, May 1978, along with backstage material and 2 bonus commercials. The CDs include concerts at the Sands, ...

| | Bobby Hutcherson Wise One CD (2009)
Katie Melua Collection album
$15.05 Unlike Bobby Hutcherson's previous super mellow effort For Sentimental Reasons, this recording is charged with increased energy and vitality, inspired by the music of John Coltrane. Hutcherson plays the part of Coltrane's tenor and soprano sax with his vibraphone quite tastefully, while guitarist Anthony Wilson adds a new chordal dimension to the music far different than a woodwind instrument. Pianist Joe Gilman is perfectly matched with his bandmates, a supple, inventive, yet forceful musician who lends great depth to the background, or in tandem with the lead instruments. California drummer and longtime confrère of Hutcherson Eddie Marshall plays as well as ever, while bassist Glenn Richman is the much lesser known but able fifth wheel. The leader is as familiar as anyone with this music, being a survivor of the turbulent '60s jazz scene, where he was in the midst of helping change the music. Here he adds extraordinary taste and precision to these originals of Coltrane's, and standards the saxophonist made his own. Perhaps the most beautiful of all Coltrane compositions is "Wise One," very well done in its flowing, no-time, introductory melody ...
| | Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown Christmas CD (1977)
Katie Melua Collection CD music
$11.65 The fourth of four CD reissues taken from Art Pepper's three nights at the Village Vanguard in July 1977, as with the other releases, adds one selection ("Scrapple from the Apple") to the music of the original LP; all of the performances on this and the other sets have since been made available as part of a massive nine-CD box set. The great altoist was clearly excited to be playing at the famous New York club, and his rhythm section -- pianist George Cables, bassist George Mraz and drummer Elvin Jones -- consistently stimulates his imagination. This release has more variety than usual, for in addition to his alto playing (including a memorable unaccompanied solo on ...
