Keith Urban's 2006 album, LOVE, PAIN AND THE WHOLE CRAZY THING, was an extremely personal album chronicling a period of personal upheaval both good (his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman) and bad (just prior to the album's release, the singer entered rehab for unspecified addictions), and although it was a success by most commercial measures, it was the Australian country singer's first album not to produce a Number One single on the country charts. The follow-up, DEFYING GRAVITY--from the adoption of a more buoyant mindset in the title song, to the soaring giddiness of the singles "Sweet Thing" and "Kiss A Girl"--is a far less somber affair. Produced by Urban's usual musical partner Dann Huff and consisting mostly of songs written or co-written by Urban (a cover of Radney Foster's sly "I'm In" being the best of the exceptions), DEFYING GRAVITY is a summery, good-time album filled with Urban's irrepressible charm.
Personnel: Keith Urban (vocals, guitar).
Audio Mixer: Justin Niebank.
Keith Urban Defying Gravity Songs Defying Gravity Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Keith Urban at his best! In a world filled with constant uncertainty "Defying Gravity" is just what the doctor ordered. This album is full of joy, love and hope, not to mention the fantastic talent of Keith Urban. It really seems like Keith has come through his Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy thing and emerged a happy, content and joyful person. All of that is reflected on this album.
The songs are full of love and passion and hope. From the first single "Sweet Thing" though the latest single "Kiss A Girl" to the song that should be the next single "Hit the Ground Running" Keith has masterfully weaved his fantastic guitar work with some great lyrics.
I bought this album the day it came out and it hasn't left the player yet. This is a must buy not only for Keith Urban fans, but fans of great music and people who love a love song. Submitted by Meri (Hamden, CT USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 3 found this helpful.
Keith has done it again :) When I first heard the song Sweet Thing, I couldn't wait for this album to come out. And now that it has (for a while now) and I've been able to listen to every song numerous times, this album does NOT disappoint. It's everything you'd think it could be plus so much more. Keith is SO incredibly talented and this album really helps show that. These songs really show his guitar playing talent.
The song Thank You is a tearjerker (in my opinion!) and such a sweet song to his wife. And Kiss A Girl and Sweet Thing are such fun and happy songs, you can't help but love them. Also, if you're a Radney Foster fan, you'll really love Keith's version of Radney's song I'm In. A personal favorite for me is If Ever I Could Love (which is also where the album title came from).
Keith has seriously outdone himself with this album. I highly reccommend it to anyone who has even the smallest appreciation for music. You don't even have to like country music to fall in love with this album. Seriously, buy it. You'll fall in love with it the second you turn it on.
:)

Defying Gravity
$10.89 On his first traditional country album since 2004's WHAT I DO, Alan Jackson steps outside the comfortable routine he's created for himself in favor of creating a more personal and introspective work. The first album on which Jackson has written all of the songs all by himself, GOOD TIME is Jackson's most autobiographical album by some distance. "Small Town Southern Man" is a touching farewell to his late father, while "I Wish I Could Back Up" and "Never Loved Before" (a duet with ...

Defying Gravity
$13.65 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover ...

Defying Gravity
$14.75 If there's a candidate for the Eagles of the 21st century, it's surely Rascal Flatts, with their seamless blend of country, rock, and pop, and their discography of multi-platinum albums hitting the top of both the country and pop charts. Their sixth album, UNSTOPPABLE, makes the aforementioned blend so smooth that only the most stubborn pigeonholer would still label them a country act. If not for the recurring pedal-steel swells and the occasional vocal twang, there'd be nothing keeping UNSTOPPABLE from being a straight-up mainstream pop album. The preponderance of big, bold power ballads should appeal to fans of, say, Bryan Adams ...
