Though fiddler and singer Charlie Daniels is a country boy through and through, his biggest hits came in the 1970s and early '80s when he and his band were aligned with the country-rock movement. Hits like the stark Vietnam remembrance "Still In Saigon" and the deathless story song "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" were as popular on rock radio as they were on country, if not more so. This budget-line anthology contains all Daniels's biggest and best hits, with a particular focus on that fertile rock-oriented period. 16 Biggest Hits Music | List Price | $7.94 (You save $1.15) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Country CDs, Country Rock | | Label | Legacy | | Orig Year | 2006 | | All Time Sales Rank | 75928 | | CD Universe Part number | 7864284 | | Catalog number | 741327 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Mar 24, 2009 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Margie Hunt (Compilation); Rob Santos (Compilation) |

16 Biggest Hits album
$19.75 There's little question that Shout! Factory's double-disc compilation The Marshall Tucker Band Anthology: The First 30 Years is exhuastive. It spans 32 songs, sampling from 20 albums, running more or less in chronological order, and giving a good idea of the group's narrative. While that's a lot of ground, some charting singles are still missing -- 1975's "This Ol' Cowboy," 1978's "Dream Lover," 1980's "It Takes Time," 1983's "A Place I've Never Been," 1987's "Hangin' Out in Smoky Places," and 1993's "Walk Outside of the Lines" are all absent, which is kind of puzzling for a collection of this size, and will certainly be frustrating for listeners who know of MTB primarily from the radio. That said, for the serious fan who wants a thorough overview this is still a pretty good choice, since it does illustrate the arc of the group's career. For less dedicated fans, this will be a bit too much Marshall Tucker Band, and they may be better sticking with the group's definitive eponymous debut, since there is no good single-disc hits compilation on the market. ~ Stephen ...

THE BEATLES (generally known as "The White Album" because of its cover) was a sprawling two-record set, highlighting the distinct personalities in the group as they matured and moved further away from each other. With the four Beatles playing like session men on each other's songs, the making of the album was fraught with tension. John Lennon's songs included a bitter take on people who read too much into the Beatles' lyrics ("Glass Onion"), reflections on loneliness and alienation ("Yer Blues," "I'm So Tired"), and the avant garde sound collage "Revolution 9."
George Harrison's songs offered black humor ("Piggies") ...

16 Biggest Hits album
$15.95 For a period in the early 1990s, Garth Brooks was not only the biggest star in country music, he was one of the biggest stars in music, period. An unassuming Oklahoman who fused the blue-collar ethic of new traditionalist country with an unapologetic pop side that drew on his love of 1970s rockers like Kiss and Billy Joel, Garth Brooks fundamentally changed the sound of mainstream country music in much the same way that Hank Williams ...

16 Biggest Hits songs
$14.09 For his third full-length on Alligator Records, Lindell stays true to the recipe that made him a regional star with a burgeoning national profile in the late '00s: a no-frills, good-timing mix of classic soul, honky-tonk, and New Orleans funk seemlessly centered on his huskily blue-eyed-soul vocals, which sound at times like a cross ...

16 Biggest Hits music CDs
$10.69 Where much of the Bollywood genre is formulaic, poppy, and seemingly manufactured, Kher reveals a tendency for vastly more soul, as he does on YATRA. His songs crafted, his vocals taking from Hindustani classical forms (dhrupad, most notably) and Sufi qawwal, there is perhaps more Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in his voice than there is Mohammed Rafi (there's even a stray harmonium in "Kar Kar Main Haara"). The result is a surprising one: the songs float, with mere hints of more modern traditions buried within more timeless sounds, the music grooves rather than bounces, and the backing vocalists sway and swoon rather than shout. With basic dance tracks, touches of bhangra, long and soulful ballads, and even a couple ...
