Making a dramatic entrance under a single spotlight wearing a shirt covered in tiny mirrors, Richard commanded the attention of his audience with his over-the-top stage show as he barreled through his classics. The energy was unparalleled. Beautifully filmed by director D.A. Pennebaker, this concert film not only captures the raw energy of Richard's explosive performance, but the adoration of a young crowd looking to cut loose with one of rock 'n' roll's greats still in his prime. When Little Richard took the stage at the Toronto Peace Festival in 1969, he set the place on fire, wowing his fans with high-octane renditions of "Tutti-Frutti" and "Good Golly, Miss Molly" (and mesmerizing them with his mirror-covered costume!). This amazing concert film, created by the Academy Award-nominated documentarian D.A. Pennebaker (DON’T LOOK BACK), captures a rock legend at the peak of his career, holding nothing back as he plays the hits that made him famous. Little Richard - Live At The Toronto Peace Festival 1969 Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Short but energetic set The 1969 Little Richard, working his way back to the charts - that would happen the next year, with two progrssive numbers from his self-produced comeback album, The Rill Thing.
But in '69, he did his rockin' oldies thing, and he did it with funky new arrangements and a cookin' new rock and soul band.
He's at the piano only on the first two numbers, then he's all over the stage and in the audience - on "Hound Dog" he leaps into the crowd and never missed a beat!
Iggy Pop, Prince, Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger were just kids then. Submitted by Phil (Red Bank, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Little Richard: Live At The Toronto Peace Festival 1969 took place during one of rock ’n’ roll’s biggest rebirths, a popular reawakening that inspired the historic Toronto Rock ’N’ Roll Revival concert where this phenomenal performance was filmed. Among the greats who appeared at this festival—including Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent— it’s safe to say that Little Richard electrified the audience the most. Making a dramatic entrance under a single spotlight wearing a shirt covered in tiny mirrors, Richard commanded the attention of his audience with his over-the-top stage show as he barreled through his classics. The energy was unparalleled.

| | Jefferson Airplane Sweeping Up The Spotlight: Live At The Fillmore East 1969 CD (2007)
Little Richard - Live At The Toronto Peace Festival 1969 DVD
$7.59 Jefferson Airplane were less focused in 1969 than they had been in the Summer of Love two years before. Recorded at the Fillmore East, these performances find the Airplane coming off their most recent album, Volunteers, released a month earlier, with the band a lot looser (drug use aside) and fractured. The factions in the group were presenting themselves during performances, and this set is no exception. Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Cassidy connected and jammed like they would have been just as content without the vocals getting in the way, Grace Slick and Paul Kantner combined their voices and played off each other, while Marty Balin screamed and crammed lyrics together, ...
