The Irish Scattering music CDs
$15.65 With her piercing vocals and sensual, exotic sound, Loreena McKennitt has single-handedly made tangible the passions of Celtic and pagan life for her large, devoted audience. Her fourth release, THE VISIT, was her breakthrough, a satisfying mixture of original compositions and adaptations. "The Lady of Shalott" is an 11-minute rendition of the Alfred Lord Tennyson poem, while McKennitt archly notes that she sings the subdued "Greensleeves" in her best Tom Waits impersonation.

| | Enya Day Without Rain CD (2000)
The Irish Scattering songs
$10.65 A DAY WITHOUT RAIN won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album.
Celtic songbird Enya is nothing if not consistent--A DAY WITHOUT RAIN won't disappoint anyone who was entranced by her first major hit "Orinoco Flow." The same blend of adult-contemporary pop, Celtic overtones, and peaceful, new age-derived ambience fills these songs. Enya knows how to set a mood, and she takes her time establishing the themes here; the title cut that opens the album doesn't even have any words, just Enya's harmoniously overdubbed humming.
Speaking of overdubs, Enya sang and played every single ...
| | Celtic Thunder Take Me Home CD (2009)
The Irish Scattering album
$14.29 The Celtic Thunder road show is a multigenerational extravaganza of Irish-flavored pop music designed to melt hearts. Their third album, culled from their 2009 show, focuses mainly on pop standbys like "Every Breath You Take" and "Wichita Lineman." While the uninitiated may not even suspect that the act is Irish, an emerald glint shines off the folkier numbers like "The Green Fields Of France" ...
| | Natalie Macmaster In My Hands CD (1999)
The Irish Scattering CD music
$14.65 This is a Hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
The basic approach taken by Celtic fiddler Natalie MacMaster and her producer, arranger, and guitarist Gordie Sampson is to take a group of traditional tunes, for example, the march and three reels mixed together and called "The Farewell," and come up with a folk-rock arrangement that emphasizes MacMaster's lyrical playing as well as a sturdy backbeat. But the two feel the need to spice things up even more, and so there are several unusual tracks, starting with the lead-off title song, in which MacMaster recites a lyric in tribute to her instrument, and including "Space Ceilidh," which features some appropriately spacy "programming"; "Olympic Reel," a rock workout with new age elements written by Mark O'Connor, who duels with MacMaster on his own fiddle; and "Get Me Through December," a ballad with Alison Krauss on vocals. The result is a hybrid album intended to appeal to a broader audience than the purist Celtic crowd, or
