With their striking debut, CARNAVAS, L.A.'s Silversun Pickups were flooded with Smashing Pumpkins comparisons. Far from unfounded, this analogy is only furthered by the alt-rock band's sophomore studio album, SWOON, with its driving beats, searing guitar lines, and fey vocals, most notably on the surging opener, "There's No Secrets This Year." Though slightly less obvious, another fitting reference is England's Placebo, an amped-up group of kindred spirits clearly evoked by the fierce "Panic Switch." While the Pickups are perpetually in danger of being eclipsed by these influences, the sheer force of their sonic attack (see "The Royal We") makes SWOON strangely impressive and undeniably engaging.

Rolling Stone (p.66) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "In one song, 'Panic Switch,' singer-guitarist Brian Aubert is a fuzz orchestra unto himself, opening with a dirty grunting lick, jumping into the chorus with an iron wall of strum and stuffing the bridge with rusted treble." Spin (p.84) - "These dreamy Los Angeles rockers keep the guitars thick and gauzy on the follow-up to their 2006 debut....A trip best made with headphones." Entertainment Weekly (p.59) - "Album opener 'There's No Secrets This Year,' a tangle of urgent drum bursts and furrowed-brow melodies, builds a nice buzz." Blender (Magazine) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Their 10 new songs average more than five minutes, and they use the time to stack arrangements like store shelves....SSPU salute misery as a kind of ideal, the opposite of love but just as beautiful." | Swoon Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) Catchy 3 Songs This is an album about a psychotic chick I think. Not that the lead singer is, it's just what they wrote about. It's pretty good. 3 songs are really good "Its Nice To Know You Work Alone", "Panic Switch", "Sort Of". I think "Sort Of" is the best by far but they keep playin panic switch to death on the radio. I like the singers voice, kinda intoxicating. Submitted by John (Fairfax, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Fuzz stays the same, but it's a different LP If "Lazy Eye" has hit the right mark with the modern rock direction with 'Carnavas', "Panic Switch" isn't any different as it's presented on 'Swoon'. Whatever progressed that made 'Carnavas' an overnight success, it's kept here even if the tone is considered to be darker which isn't bad all in all. They've Done It Again! This album is fantastic; it gets better with every listen. As an avid fan of this band since the first time I heard "Kissing Families" from their Pikup EP, I was afraid that they might have trouble following up the amazing Carnavas. I must admit that I had prepared myself to hear a sub-par effort the first time I listened. Nothing could be further from truth. This album is amazing. Worth the wait! I wasn't sure they could top Carnavas, but they have. Definitely no 'sophomore slump' here! Well-written songs with driving bass lines, crunchy, solid guitar rhythms and solos, pervasive keyboard soundscapes and excellent percussion. This album flows. The last time I spent a weekend listening to an album repeatedly from start to finish was U2's Achtung Baby. Very well done!! Submitted by Matt (Edwardsville, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
" Very Possibly the Best Album of the Year" Finally a band that truly harnesses the artistry for immortality in the music scene, if only more were as original.

Swoon
$12.05 This Montreal ensemble's fiery debut is marked by surging guitars, soulful strings, driving drums, brilliant bass lines, and the quavering vocals of married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. The group's song structures careen through a vast territory of musical and personal history, with lyrics warm with memories of childhood neighborhoods and deceased loved ones, resulting in an alternating current of joy and sadness.
Favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and Broken Social Scene, the Arcade Fire's sound seems to come from a lifetime of listening ...

$7.25 While nowhere near as immediate as their 2006 grunge-pop opus Carnavas, this EP from 2005, enigmatically named for and dedicated to a friend of the band's (and pronounced "pie-kull"), shows Silversun Pickups developing their Smashing Pumpkins worship into a formula all their own. The difference ...

$10.09 "When I think of One Bullet Resolution, I think of passion, precision and power. This is a buzz-worthy group."-- Eugene Foley / Foley Entertainment, Inc."One Bullet Resolution has given the world of Independent Music a big giant bitch-slap with the release of their premiere album ‘New Beginning’. The album is a cocktail of many different genres of music that creates something unique and definitely waited for in the Indie music scene. Tracks like David, Jungles and Parallel Universe give us a real life view into the creative machine that is OBR. Their music is gritty, diverse, playful and introspective without being indulgent and preachy. New Beginning will be the one and only platform One Bullet Resolution needs to hit the majors."-- Mike HuffmanProgram DirectorFreerocker.com"Home of Music Independance""Compare it to Mr. Bungle or maybe Korn with the heavy rap-rock lyrics flowing like rocks at an enemy, but One Bullet Resolution's anticipated New Beginning is out and ready to tear through cities. This is one album with all the ingredients to satisfy fans of music from heavy metal to alternative rock; a nonstop discourse through intense feeling and the strength to hold onto goals. Take this new beginning and run with it because this is what the future of breaking musical genres should sound like. While the name of the band, One Bullet Resolution, may sound like a suicide solution of sorts, the album releases torrents of high energy which can only mean a feeling of hope. Reoccurring themes of holding on and "take my hand" collide forcibly with desperate cries of lost patience and inability to sleep. Hope stays in the harmony soothing angry and overwrought fans' sense of catharsis. The final letting go will be experienced at upcoming shows where fans can literally collide with each other pounding out aggression like the rhythms ask.The title track, "New Beginning" starts with an industrial sound including layered samples calling, "embrace the tragedy". By the time the clear chorus comes around the lyrics, "It's too late for us, it's not worthwhile" leads into the rapped "stand up, participate, stand up, let's desecrate". In the middle of the song a breakdown occurs where the musical intensity lessens and harmonies claim, "it wasn't all so bad…" and the theme of a New Beginning returns like a tormented teen weighing the decisions to burn the world down or fight for freedom.Featured tracks include, "Bandits", which seems to hone in on an angst-ridden feeling. Well-harmonized lyrics cascade over samples of laughter which call to the insecurities in each of us; that nagging voice warning ...
