Oasis's sixth studio album, DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUTH, finds the Gallagher brothers back on solid sonic ground. After 2002's HEATHEN CHEMISTRY, the quintessential Britpop band began working with electronica act Death in Vegas, but the pairing proved uneasy, and Oasis opted for a return to its signature sound. Here the group's '60s-inspired sound is exemplified by the record's first single, "Lyla," which sets the tone, as both frontman Liam Gallagher and songwriter/guitarist Noel Gallagher lend vocals to the chiming, surging Beatlesque track. (The band's Beatles fixation hits a new level here with Ringo Starr's son, Zak Starkey, drumming on a number of songs.) Other highlights of DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUTH include the stomping opener, "Turn Up the Sun," and the urgent, brooding "Part of the Queue." (Noel's vocal turn on the latter is particularly impressive, and gives his troublemaking younger sibling a run for his money.) Although it's tough to top the one-two punch of Oasis's initial pair of albums, this record proves that the lads can still turn out potent, swaggering, and energetic rock.Rolling Stone (No. 975, p.70) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "[This album presents] an increased emphasis on texture--including plenty of subdued psych-rock atmosphere..." Spin (p.103) - "[T]hey haven't sounded this loose and confident since 1995's MORNING GLORY?....Noel's singing has never been stronger or lovelier." -- Grade: A- Mojo (Publisher) (p.60) - Ranked #25 in Mojo's "The 50 Best Albums Of 2005" - "[T]hey morphed into sharp psych-poppers..." $22.75 Very few Led Zeppelin performances were caught on camera during the band's life-span, but the footage that has been preserved for posterity is collected on this release. With a running time of over five-and-a-half hours, this is the definitive word on Zep's global stage-straddling performances. The footage is taken from London's Royal Albert Hall in January 1970, London's Earls Court in ...

$21.29 THE VERY BEST OF includes a 46-page booklet with pictures and track information.
"Hole In The World" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
This 1994 greatest hits package (released in anticipation of the band's wildly successful reunion tour and album) supplants THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971-1975. It adds seven songs, but unfortunately deletes "Already Gone," one of their best rockers.
What's most interesting about THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES - apart from the presence of obviously classic songs like "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California" - is that it demonstrates that the band's esthetic was fully formed from day one. Despite the fact that the songs here span nearly a decade, listening to them back to back you could almost believe they were the product of one marathon recording session.
The Eagles' founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey were forthright in their desire to bring then-emerging country rock to new heights of commercial ...

| | Electric Light Orchestra A New World Record - Expanded Edition CD (1976) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Don't Believe The Truth album
$7.59 Also available in a 3-pack with FACE THE MUSIC and DISCOVERY.
1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water mark.
Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, Out of the Blue, as the high points in the band's history. One might be better off opting for A New World Record over its successor, however, as a more modest-sized creation chock full of superb songs ...

| | Cat Stevens Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night): Special Edition CDs (2009)
Don't Believe The Truth album
$20.95 ROADSINGER is the second album the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens (and before that, Steven Georgiou) has released in a secular, Western pop style since 1978, well before he embraced Islam, changed his name to Yusuf, and began releasing Islamic-oriented spoken-word and musical material. Like its 2006 predecessor, AN OTHER CUP, ROADSINGER harks back to the Cat Stevens who dominated the charts in the '70s with a warm, accessible folk-pop sound. And while the lyrics here are not without their spiritual content, there's nothing overt or denominational about it. Probably even less so than what you'd find on any given U2 album, for instance. The pace is mostly slow to moderate here, with a reflective tone prevailing, but then, his classic albums like TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN were never exactly about raving rockers either. Ultimately, ROADSINGER is all about Yusuf/Cat/Steven getting back to what he does best--agreeably earnest, unfailingly melodic, amiably easygoing, acoustic-based tunes whose weight can easily be obscured by their abundance of ear-catching hooks.
