| | Grateful Dead To Terrapin: Hartford '77 CD Grateful Dead Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
Long a prized bootleg, the final show of the Grateful Dead's Spring '77 tour finally saw an official release via the three disc TO TERRAPIN: HARTFORD '77 set. Capturing the band at the peak of the late '70s era--and just before the release of the disco-tinged experiment TERRAPIN STATION--the box focuses mostly on the hippie funk side of their formula as evidenced on the lively Chuck Berry cover "Promised Land" and future TERRAPIN cut "Samson and Delilah." Despite the uptempo groovers, the set wins on the strength of a 20-minute "Sugaree" and a particularly mournful "Row Jimmy," both of which foreground Jerry's languid leads and mastery of the slow jam.
Liner Note Author: Gary Lambert.
Grateful Dead: Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir (vocals, guitar); Donna Jean Godchaux (vocals); Keith Godchaux (piano, keyboards); Phil Lesh (electric bass); Mickey Hart (drums, percussion).
Audio Remasterer: Jeffrey Norman.
Dirty Linen (p.56) - "Generally regarded as one of the best shows of the band's post-retirement peak year, the Hartford show also features a great opening medley of 'Bertha,' 'Good Lovin',' and 'Sugaree.'" Record Collector (magazine) (p.87) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he sound is crystalline and quietly dynamic, capturing every subtle nuance through 21 tracks running nearly three hours." To Terrapin: Hartford '77 album
$12.39 I REMEMBER MILES won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance.
This stunning album is Shirley Horn's loving tribute to her friend and colleague, the legendary late Miles Davis. Davis was so taken by Horn's first album EMBERS AND ASHES that he forced The Village Vanguard to let her virtually-unknown trio open for him during his 1961 run there. Their friendship ...
| | Yes Tales From Topographic Oceans CDs (1974) Bonus Tracks
To Terrapin: Hartford '77 CD music
$11.89 For prog rock's detractors, Yes's TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS is the genre's nadir. For admirers it is an artistic pinnacle. Whichever camp you're in, it is hard to deny the sheer chutzpah necessary to undertake this sprawling epic. Though broken up into four sections, TALES greeted 1973 listeners as a single composition spread across four sides of a double album. This was unprecedented in the world of mainstream rock. For the band, it was the closest they would ever come to a true fusion of classical structures and themes with rock-oriented ...
| | Doors Live At The Aquarius Theater-The Second Performance CDs (2001)
To Terrapin: Hartford '77 music CDs
$28.15 As the title suggests, this set contains the second of two complete shows from the Doors at the Aquarius Theater in Hollywood, July 21, 1969. Both were professionally documented, anticipating enough material for a stopgap concert album as the band simultaneously composed and arranged new sides for their subsequent Morrison Hotel and LA Woman studio releases. With over three decades under the bridge and the blessings of the surviving bandmembers, Live at the Aquarius Theater: The Second Performance provides a real-time recreation ...

| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
To Terrapin: Hartford '77 album
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would ...
