There are just no two ways about it: if you call yourself a fan of '70s music, you simply must have Linda Ronstadt's HEART LIKE A WHEEL. Like Fleetwood Mac's RUMOURS and The Eagles HOTEL CALIFORNIA, this is a masterpiece that has earned a spot in every record collection that's worth its salt. Ronstadt, the '70s queen of southern California country-rock, is in pristine form. Her angelic voice is flawless as each track flows from one to the other like a gentle stream.
Not only do you get the hit "You're No Good" and the Everly Brothers' classic "When Will I Be Loved," but the sorrowful title track and Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)" give testament to Ronstadt's legendary feel for driving the emotion home. What's more, if the powerful "Willing" doesn't have you longing for the days of bell bottoms and bandanas, you just aren't feeling it. With production by Peter Asher and guests like Emmylou Harris, Maria Muldaur, J.D. Souther and most of the aforementioned Eagles, Ronstadt crafted a magnificent blend of country, rock and folk that is among the greatest records made in a generation.
Recorded at The Sound Factory, Los Angeles, California. Originally released on Capitol.

Heart Like A Wheel Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) Amazing album "Heart Like a Wheel" (1974) has stood the test of time. It still ranks as one of Ronstadt's best albums along with "Don't Cry Now,"(1973), "Prisoner in Disguise" (1975) & "Hasten Down the Wind" (1976). She sings effortlessly on a great mixture of songs covering pop, country, folk etc. She's backed by the usual L.A. session hands including Kenny Edwards, J. D. Souther, Herb Pedersen, Chris Ethridge, Emory Gordy, David Lindley, Russ Kunkel, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Wendy Waldman, Maria Muldaur, Emmylou Harris - and most notably - multiinstrumentalist Andrew Gold, who worked out a lot of the arrangements. Excellent remastering by the way. A milestone in Linda Ronstadt's recording career and a must have for all her fans. Submitted by Søren (Hvidovre, Denmark) Was This Review Helpful? 24K Heart Like A Wheel I've waited a long time for Heart Like A Wheel to be reprocessed in a 24K Gold format. The intruments and Linda Ronstadt's vocals are breath taking. The album takes me back to the year I graduated from high school. I no longer have the original album on 33 LP. Besides the excellant sound on this CD Linda's autograph is a added plus on the disc. For those of you that desire to own this 24K gold don't wait buy it now before it goes out of print. Submitted by Edward (Biloxi, Mississippi) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
booger off People need to mind their own business regarding remasters from Audio Fidelity. I own two, & they sound great. Every CD I've ever owned remastered by Steve Hoffman is a breathe of fresh air to the ears. The Leon Russell reissues from '95 come to mind as well. If you've ever heard one before the process & then a remaster, you'll easily hear the difference. He also did the second disc of the Collector's Edition of Love-Forever Changes. It sounds like a new album now. People, just stick to the original versions, or quit complaining. I'm betting it's more because of the extra dollars needed for a gold CD. There's several I want, but can't afford. Submitted by bill key (rogers, ar usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Finally mastered from the Original Master Tapes! And done correctly! This version makes other releases pale in comparison. All Audio Fidelity releases are from the original master tapes, done by the same person (Steve Hoffman) which brings consistent Analogue quality from all of Audio Fidelity's releases - from a CD! This one is no exception! You can hear what Linda and her band sounded like in the studio. This even sounds better than my vinyl LP and previous to this release, that was the closest to analogue that anyone could get. You can't go wrong with this gold disc! Another Not From Original Masters Hoffman Messup! Not bad sounding at all, but obviously mastered from a digital source as it has that 'sound' of digital that in inescapable. Clear, full, sizzle of digititis on top, a good remaster from digital but could have been SO much better if Hoffman were allowed to get the true masters. I wish a company like Mobile Fidelity, that IS able to get master tapes from record companies (majors don't have to worry about getting the tapes back, or getting back damaged tapes where MOFI is concerned). 2 Stars due to the deception on being from original master tapes.
