Give Me Take You album
$13.99 Originally released on Columbia in 1968, The United States of America is one of the legendary pure psychedelic space records. Some of the harder-rocking tunes have a fun house recklessness that recalls aspects of early Pink Floyd and the Velvet Underground at their freakiest; the sedate, exquisitely orchestrated ballads, especially "Cloud Song" and the wonderfully titled "Love Song for the Dead Che," are among the best relics of dreamy psychedelia. Occasionally things get too excessive and self-conscious, and the attempts at comedy are a bit flat, but otherwise this is a near classic. ~ Richie Unterberger
In its original form, the United States of America's self-titled (and sole album) was one of the most exciting and experimental psychedelic albums of the late '60s, blending searingly imaginative electronics with equally unusual songs that were both piercing and dreamy. Although a Sony Music Special Products CD with two added previously unreleased outtakes was briefly available in the early '90s, Sundazed's reissue is the definitive one for those who want even more than the original album offered. While the two somewhat half-baked outtakes from the previous CD reissue ("Osamu's Birthday" and "No Love to Give") are here, this disc adds a further eight tracks that were never released before, including yet more outtakes and some substantially different alternate versions of songs that did make it onto the final album. While none of ...
| | Devo Duty Now For The Future CD (1979)
Give Me Take You CD music
$9.79 Although not quite as stellar as its predecessor, 1979's 'DUTY NOW FOR THE FUTURE' is a solid second release by those loveable spuds from Ohio. With hindsight, DUTY helped bridge the gap between the quirky weirdness of their debut and their more accessible third album, FREEDOM OF CHOICE, which would prove to be their breakthrough commercial success (achieving gold status and spawning the classic new wave hit "Whip It"). Replacing Brian Eno as producer is another Bowie disciple, Ken Scott (ZIGGY STARDUST, HUNKY DORY), who helps guide the band towards a more "rock" sound.
Devo tackled the Stones' "Satisfaction" on their debut, and on DUTY they cover the '60s surf/spy hit "Secret ...

Give Me Take You music CDs
$16.09 Finally unleashed for the length of a full album, Murphy's muse still offers up plenty of John-Foxx-will-rise-again retro synth sounds, but he expands his palette as well. The irresistibly catchy "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" is a funky, riff-driven party-starter that compares favorably to vintage Beck, and "On Repeat" indicates a fascination with the lyrical cadences of the Fall's Mark E. Smith. Moving further back in time to the art-rock era, "Never as Tired as When I'm Waking Up" is a dreamy tune that could have slipped unnoticed off Pink Floyd's MEDDLE, and "Great Release" is an unabashed, slow-building Eno homage. To keep the club kids happy, a bonus disc featuring LCD's previous singles (including the aforementioned faves) is tacked on to an already-attractive package.
As half of the NYC underground-legend production ...
| | Mott The Hoople CD (1969)
Give Me Take You songs
$10.59 From the brilliant cover illustration by M.C. Escher to what nearly every critic called a "straightfaced" version of Sonny Bono's "Laugh At Me" (as though it was impossible to perform it any other way), Mott The Hoople's debut album showed that they were clearly no ordinary post-psychedelic British band. Their original material, particularly guitarist Mick Ralph's "Rock And ...
| | Mott The Hoople Drive On CD (1975)
Give Me Take You album
$9.69 Few bands have a sadder coda than Mott the Hoople. Top of their game for three glorious years, one of the U.K.'s best-loved bands for six, the group should have come to a grinding halt the moment frontman Ian Hunter walked out. They'd lost key members before, of course: organist Verden Allen, who composed one of the finest songs in the band's entire repertoire, the churning "Soft Ground"; guitarists Mick Ralphs and Ariel Bender, both of whom drove the group to distinctly different, but similarly spellbinding peaks during their years of lieutenanthood. But Hunter was different. Not only did he sing the majority of the songs, he wrote them as well, while his public image -- long fizzy hair, omnipresent shades -- was so universally well-known that, to many onlookers (the staunchest fans included), he WAS Mott the Hoople. Rhythm section Overend Watts and Bufin, and latter-day keyboard player Morgan Fisher felt otherwise. Recruiting two unknowns to fill the void (guitarist Mick Ronson departed with Hunter) and abbreviating the band name to its most recognizable syllable, the trio began work on a new album almost immediately -- and one still wonders what was really going on in their minds. Of the five, only Watts had any songwriting experience to call upon; indeed, his "Born Late 58" was one of the highlights of 1974's The Hoople album. But any hopes that he might blossom à la an ex-Beatles George Harrison, or post-Vince Clarke Martin Gore were soon to crumble. The best songs (the first 45, "Monte Carlo," the driving "It Takes One to Know One") have absolutely nothing to do with ...

$10.49 | | George Jones Collection: Super Hits/Super Hits, Vol. 2/George SND Tammy Super Hits CDs (1997)
Give Me Take You songs
$24.55 Also available as three separate albums: SUPER HITS, SUPER HITS VOL. 2 and GEORGE & TAMMY SUPER HITS.
This three-CD set neatly re-packages three previously available "hits" collections of the Possum, George Jones, one of the greatest country singers of all time. These songs are culled from the years 1972 through 1987, during Jones' long tenure with Epic Records and his association with producer Billy Sherrill. Sherrill's approach to country music is to soften its edges to make it appear to a wider audience, and Jones' voice--a descendant of Hank Williams Sr. and Webb Pierce--was always pure honky-tonk, sharp as moonshine.
The songs' mellow backgrounds--choruses, ...
