About Jan Johansson Jan Johansson was born on the 16th of September 1931 in Söderhamn, Sweden, and began to play the piano at age 11.He moved to Gothenburg, Sweden to study electro engineering. It was during this period that he met Stan Getz, who was living in Copenhagen, Denmark at the time. It didn't take long until Jan had to end his studies to move to Copenhagen to play with Getz. Jan played with a lot of different American jazz greats, and was the first European ever to join “Jazz at the Philharmonic”. In 1957 he got married to Else.In 1961-68 he lived in Stockholm, where he was very productive. He recorded about 20 records under his own name, wrote music for the Swedish Radio and TV (the Pippi Longstocking theme music, for example) and had two sons, Jens and Anders who both have become world wide known musicians themselves. Some of the more famous records are: Jazz på svenska (“Jazz in Swedish”), which has sold platinum many times over, Jazz på ryska (“Jazz in Russian”), Musik genom fyra sekler (“Music through four centuries”), 8 bitar Johansson (“8 pieces Johansson”) and Innertrio. During this time he also appeared on numerous other artist's records as a session musician. Jan was honoured with a lot of gold records, Grammies and other awards. On November 9th 1968 Jan Johansson was killed in a car crash on his way to a church concert in Jönköping, Sweden. After all these years since his death he is still the best selling and most well respected jazz piano player in Scandinavia. Jan Johansson Piano Songs | 1. | Visa frn Utanmyra |

Piano CD music
$12.75 It seems incredible that Roberta Gambarini didn't win the Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition but she was new to the U.S., having just arrived from her native Italy. But with each new release, she has demonstrated that she is easily the most accomplished vocalist of the competitors for the prize. Pianist Hank Jones, who knows a thing or two about great singers, refers to her as the "greatest vocalist to come along in the past 60 years." On 2009's SO IN LOVE, with a rhythm section rotating among three talented up-and-coming pianists (Tamir Hendeman, Eric Gunnison, and Gerald ...
| | Slim Man Jazzified CD (1999)
Piano music CDs
$13.15 If you took a heap of the soul out of Bobby Caldwell's voice and made him a bit more nasal, the result would be close to the easygoing, pleasantly romantic, yet ultimately unremarkable Slim Man. Still, what Slim lacks in powerful emotion and any sort of passion or intensity, he more than compensates for in genuine likability, and Jazzified (Bona Fide Music) plays like a balmy soundtrack to a day on a tropical beach. The dreamy waltz "Other Side of Love" typifies his approach -- casual delivery of sweet yet simplistic lyrics while synth strings sway in the background, harmonically enhanced by Joe Ercole's synth vibes, Kevin Levi's smoky sax, and the irresistible acoustic guitar harmonies of Marc Antoine. In other words, he prefers a subtle vocal approach while his guest stars carry the emotional weight. Ercole and Levi are particularly effective in solo spotlights on "Steal the Night." Though some of his tunes -- particularly "Angela" and "A Night Like This" -- are hummable upon just a few listenings, this disc suffers from a certain predictability; it's mostly midtempo ballads, with a few slowing down to a crawl. A little more depth and a lot more energy would have helped this disc rise from the sea of pleasantries into something more meaningful. ~ Jonathan Widran
J.D. Considine (Rolling Stone) said of the Slim Man style “...a near perfect example of how jazz and soul can be combined as pop.” Slim Man's 'jazzified' CD was named Best Contemporary Jazz CD in the JAZZIZ 2001 Readers PollWhen Slim Man was five years old, his Dad took him to see a movie --’The Five Pennies’, starring Danny Kaye and Louis Armstrong. When Young Slim saw Louis sing and play, he told his Dad...”That’s what I want to do.”Slim Man then studied trumpet for ten years, and taught himself how to sing and play piano and guitar as well. Slim Man’s first gig? He was in fifth grade, and he played guitar and sang a few Beatles songs for the sixth grade graduation. While in middle school he took up bass, and Slim Man’s band ‘Momma Max’ opened up for Iggy Pop and the Stooges, The Raspberries, and others.Slim Man’s First Big Break came when he went on a trip to NYC to meet a publisher who expressed some interest in Slim’s Songs. When he got to NYC, Slim Man found out that the publisher had other non-musical interests in mind, and left the meeting disappointed yet determined. He went to a phone booth and ...

Piano CD music
$13.79 A versatile fusion guitarist who can also play fiery rock and straight-ahead jazz, Carl Filipiak dominates his CD I Got Your Mantra.
