| | Carbon Leaf Nothing Rhymes With Woman CD Carbon Leaf Discography of CDs
Carbon Leaf are known variously as a jam band, a Celtic rock band, and a folk-rock band, among other things, but in truth they play classic roots rock. That familiar sound is in full flower on 2009's NOTHING RHYMES WITH WOMAN, which offers up 13 guitar-driven tunes full of singable choruses and earnest lyrical themes. Longtime fans will hear some of the band's signature Celtic flair on "Pink," but for the most part this set consists of blues-based rockers delivered with skill and conviction.
Personnel: Terry Clark , Barry Privett, Carter Gravatt (vocals, guitar); Jon Markel (bass guitar); Jason Neal (drums, percussion).
Audio Mixer: Trina Shoemaker.

Nothing Rhymes With Woman music CDs
$17.95 The larger-than-life music created by ELP was dependent upon the equally sizable musical/personal egos of its members. By 1977, the inevitable acrimony between the three had caused an aesthetic and spiritual decline. On the two separately issued volumes of WORKS, we can see a band on the verge of coming apart. Though the songs and arrangements are uniformly strong, there's precious little interaction. Many songs seem to feature only one member of the band at a time, the ...

| | Maccabees Wall Of Arms CD (2009)
Nothing Rhymes With Woman album
$22.09 Maccabees' first album, Colour It In, was more than a little indebted to the Futureheads, Bloc Party, and the other U.K. acts who popularized urgent tempos and angular riffs in the mid-2000s, but the band drastically renovates their sound on Wall of Arms. However, it's still easy to hear where they get their inspiration. They've traded their formerly scrappy approach for a style that borrows the Arcade Fire's anthemic sweep -- it's no coincidence this album was produced by Arcade Fire collaborator Markus Dravs. On "Can You Give It," singer Orlando Weeks' previously marble-mouthed vocals have morphed into something closely resembling Win Butler's tremulous keen, and the rest of the song follows suit, with galloping drums and handclaps that lead the way to massive choruses with a dramatic ebb and flow. Even though the band shows its influences just as transparently as they did on Colour It In, they sound much more confident and comfortable -- in fact, they seem downright ...
| | Laura Nyro Mother's Spiritual CD (1984)
Nothing Rhymes With Woman CD music
$13.59 MOTHER'S SPIRITUAL, Laura Nyro's first album in six years after 1978's NESTED (and her ninth overall), found the writer of "Stoned Soul Picnic" and "Sweet Blindness" turning explictly to more politically minded material, reflecting a growing interest in the environment ("Talk To A Tree," "Trees Of The Ages") and New Age feminism, perhaps sparked by her own newfound experience as a mother. Long a neglected title, the 2009 Iconoclassic reissue, with superb remastering by Vic Anesi, is the first time MOTHER'S is available on CD--in the U.S. at least. (Iconoclassic has also made NESTED available in a similar format). The liner notes by Nyro biographer Michele Kort stress the serene beauty of the work, in pointed contrast to the rollercoaster musical dynamics of such early Nyro opuses as ELI & THE 13th CONFESSIONAL and NEW YORK TENDABERRY.
Laura Nyro's ninth album Mother's Spiritual was the second of her two 'maternal' albums (1978's Nested being the first). Mother's Spiritual broke a long silence upon its release in 1984, being Nyro's first new release in over five years, and was itself followed by a nearly decade-long absence from the studio. In contrast to the wild, adventurous music with which Nyro first made her reputation (Eli and the Thirteenth Confession, New York Tendaberry), Mother's Spiritual exhibits ...
