(1 Customer Review)
Though marketed as a children's album in conjunction with toy maker Fisher Price, LULLABIES could more accurately be described as a children-themed, adult-directed singer-songwriter album. Composed largely of gentle, lyrically direct, folky originals with a few standards thrown in ("Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"), the album most recalls Jewel's multi-platinum debut PIECES OF YOU. For longtime followers of the Alaska native's frequent genre-jumping, this comes as a welcome development--Jewel always shone brightest when equipped with a simple song and a sparse arrangement. Here her soothing singing wraps the listener like a warm blanket, making LULLABIES a perfect bedtime record for weary heads of all ages.

Lullaby album
$11.69 On guitar-slinger Johnny Winter's 2004 outing, I'M A BLUESMAN, his spicy style of playing keeps with a legacy dating back to the late 1960s, when he was playing on the club circuit of tiny Beaumont, Texas. Tapping Roy Buchanan/Albert Collins producer Dick Shurman to man the console, Winter wisely brings his touring band into the studio with him.
Although the albino axe-wielder's guitar tone sounds oddly compressed, his still-impressive playing does much to dispel any distractions. Such is the case when the sixtysomething Texan plays the spurned-lover card, be it on the organ-soaked howler "Cheatin' Blues" or the subtler, but no less suspicious, "I Smell Smoke." Despite nearly being eligible for Social Security, the rail-thin Winter ...
| | Alan Jackson What I Do CD (2004)
Lullaby CD music
$7.59 Ever since he first emerged in the late 1980s as a tradition-conscious alternative to the country-crossover "hat acts" overrunning Nashville, singer/songwriter Alan Jackson has turned out remarkably consistent records full of solid, often self-penned tunes that connect with both old-school country fans and those with more mainstream tastes. Accordingly, WHAT I DO contains no rock/pop trappings, "modern" production touches, or gimmicky songs. Rather, it's an album of direct, heartfelt sentiments expressed with equal amounts of emotional honesty and tasteful understatement.
"Strong Enough" and the aptly titled "Burnin' the Honky Tonks Down" have the classic honky-tonk flavor that makes Jackson's roots in Merle Haggard-style '60s country plain. The heartbreaking, expertly crafted "Monday Morning Church" and the quietly inspirational "There Ya ...
| | Keith Urban Be Here CD (2004)
Lullaby music CDs
$9.99 With his US debut album, GOLDEN ROAD, Keith Urban confounded critics' expectations of what a New Zealand-born country singer could do, delivering a record that not only contained four Number One hits and remained on the charts for more than 100 weeks, but was an undeniably substantial artistic achievement. Urban cites legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb (author of Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman" and "Galveston"), as an influence, and Urban's music often recalls not only Nashville ...
