| Awesome! I had this lp on vinyl many years ago (actually still do), but the grooves have been worn out from timeless play. This, in my opinion, is one of the greatest live lp's ever released. Donny Hathaway was one baaaad dude, with a gospel, soul-drenched voice that was as smooth as silk, as strong as the northern winds, and as rich as the most delectable pound cake. His energy exudes on this lp. You can feel the pain and yearning for hope in his "Little Ghetto Boy" - the musicianship in "Everything Is Everything" and "The Ghetto" - and what he does with "You've Got A Friend" and "What's Going On" is amazing. This is a stellar lp from a singer who is sorely overlooked in the story of American singers and songwriters. Nice to see this lp get some much needed light of day. | Chicken Wings, Hot Sauce, and a Whiskey and Coke please... I'm literally listening to this for the first time right now as I write this and and I'm only in the middle of the second song. I'm there right now ordering the title of this review about to dance my a** off and probably not go to work for a couple days due to the absolute bliss I would be feeling having seen this show live. If the rest of the album is him trying to convert me to Hari Krishna it's still worth the money from the first two tracks alone... and I have a feeling this is going to be one soulful, fun, inspiring, and absolutely funky trip... Put this right next to the Bill Withers Live album from Carnegie Hall and you got yourself probably 2 of the top 5 greatest Live Soul albums of all time... hands down. Please treat yourself and others to this album and spread the word about how 70's soul music was not just timeless... but the the voice of a revolution pushing and striving to make a place for it's people on shear rhythm & harmony while at the same time influencing every single musician alive at the time. Thanks for reading this... get this now. By highone (Dallas, TX) This review is for a different format. |
| Amazing.. ..is the first word that comes to mind hearing this. I was, and still am, blown away hearing this CD. One of the least-known, but most influential artists from the 70's. It's like he was right there in your living room.. gone way before he made his best music. By Kevin (Centreville, VA) This review is for a different format. |
| Donny at his best. This is Donny at his best. I loved it in the seventies and it is ageless.Wherever you are Donny, you left a lasting impression on me. I felt like I was right in the audience at this concert. By a reviewer (Durham,NC) This review is for a different format. |
