Many have claimed the King of doom title but one listen and the truth is here...this is it, the standard by which all metal, doom, stoner, etc. is measured against. Still a classic, nice to hear again. Submitted by crzylary (Norwalk, Ct. usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Heavy Metal Kings of the 70's Black Sabbath were and are the heavy metal kings of the 70's and now as far as I'm concerned.
Ray Staff did a great job remastering for the original Castle/Sanctuary remasters, but these new Sanctuary remasters done by Michael Pearce are just a tad better, to me, that is. You listen back to back and decide. I say this is probably the best remastering job of Master of Reality I have heard.
The bonus tracks. I have waited a long time to hear them! I think Weevil Woman71 could have been a good song. It has potential with a little more work on it.(If the original 4 get back together I hope they will consider working up this track and including it with what they recorded back in 2000 - 2001, and mastering it.) What we have here again is work in progress. Ozzy and his scratch vocals, he was getting better at it. I think this version of Solitude should have been used with a little more work. I did not care for the slide guitar and piano in Lord of this World, perhaps I would if that had been the only way I had ever heard it. But all in all they were very interesting. There are instrumental versions of After Forever and Children of the Grave. For all the naysayers, if you think you could do a better job than Ozzy, here's your chance. You can front Black Sabbath 1970 - 71. Submitted by Darryl Baysinger (Fulton, MO & Pensacola, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Master Of Reality album
$10.45 Starz' sophomore album, Violation, was quite similar to its predecessor. Jack Douglas was still the band's producer, and Starz continued to favor the type of slick, commercial hard rock that would be called pop-metal in the '80s and early '90s. This 1977 LP didn't establish Starz as major players in the pop-metal field; the New Yorkers did have a small following, although not a huge one. Nonetheless, this is an enjoyable record. It doesn't contain any pop-metal masterpieces like Kiss' "Shout It out Loud" or Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz," but tracks like "Cherry Baby" and "Rock Six Times" are certainly decent. Most of the time, Starz vocalist Michael Lee Smith sings about the same things that Kiss and Sweet were singing about in the '70s; namely, all-night parties and wild young women in tight dresses. Starz's lyrics, as a rule, were meant to be fun, not profound, and while Violation didn't go down in history as one of pop-metal's all-time classics, it's worth hearing if you're a fan of the style. ~ Alex Henderson

| | Witchcraft Firewood CD (2005)
Master Of Reality CD music
$13.65 Ask a group of doom metal or stoner rock enthusiasts what band was the blueprint for the doom/stoner field, and the vast majority will -- without hesitation -- say Black Sabbath. So when a band is as Sabbath-influenced as Witchcraft, it is understandable that some headbangers would describe them as a doom band. But Witchcraft isn't nearly as forceful or as heavy as Eyehategod, Orange Goblin, or Toadliquor, and Firewood isn't typical of what has been considered doom metal and stoner rock in the '90s and 2000 -- actually, this 2005 release shows no awareness of post-'80s metal or even post-'70s metal. Rather, Firewood is a total throwback to the heavy metal, hard rock, and psychedelic rock of the late '60s and very early '70s. ...

| | Black Sabbath Paranoid CDs (1971) (Import) Bonus CD; Bonus DVD; Advd; Deluxe Edition; United Kingdom
Master Of Reality songs
$31.89 PARANOID proved to be Black Sabbath's most focused, consistent, and successful record. Leaving behind the amorphous, extended jams of their debut for focused songs and a more structured sound, Black Sabbath virtually wrote the book on heavy metal with the ominous, unforgettable riffs, thunderous rhythms, and dark themes on this release. There are some up-tempo rockers, the famous title track for one, but for the most part PARANOID oozes along like a bad dream, as on the slinky, creepy opener, "War Pigs," or the lumbering thud of "Iron Man" (which boasts one of the most indelible electric guitar riffs in rock history).
2009 digitally remastered and expanded deluxe three CD edition of the classic sophomore album from the Heavy Metal kingpins led by Ozzy Osbourne. Originally released in 1970, Paranoid still stands as an important milestone in the history of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. This ultimate edition features a beautifully remastered version ...
| | Who Sell Out CDs (1967) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Master Of Reality album
$21.25 This 1995 reissue of THE WHO SELL OUT includes songs and jingles not available on the original version.
Originally released on Track (612002/613002). Released in the U.S. on Decca (4950/74950) in 1968.
One of the Who's classics, THE WHO SELL-OUT found the band following the Beatles' lead into concept territory while slyly commenting on the new direction as overtly commercial via its title, its cover art, and the inclusion of many fake advertisements between its tracks. Ironically, the group were involved with real advertisements--some of which are included in this box--at the time of the SELL-OUT sessions. The album has held up over the years--certainly meriting mention with other behemoths of British concept psych like SGT. PEPPER'S, DISRAELI GEARS, and THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN. The record consistently finds footing in the upper reaches of critical all-time best lists.
Geffen reissued the album in 2009 as 55-song box set featuring the complete sequenced album in stereo and mono mixes and two discs worth of album-related odds and sods--many of them previously unreleased. "Odorono" appears with its final chorus intact as do an excellent take on Eddie Cochrane's "Summertime Blues" and many versions of "Rael," Pete Townshend's first stab at full-blown ...

Master Of Reality CD music
$27.39 The archetypal heavy metal band, Black Sabbath unleashed a debut album marked by ponderous, sludgy rhythms, heavily distorted riffs and chords, and more than a whiff of darkness and Black Magic. Its crushing atmosphere of doom proved intense and relentless; the cumulative effect was dubbed "downer rock," but it proved immediately popular with a disaffected audience. Though no one could have predicted it at the time, Sabbath was laying the groundwork for a genre that would continue to grow in popularity through the '70s, '80s, '90s, and beyond.

Master Of Reality songs
$16.09 For some bands (especially those in the metal community), The Lord of the Rings and its surrounding mythology served as the perfect platform on which to build a power metal empire, but for Scotland's Alestorm it was Pirates of the Caribbean. Like its brother genre Viking metal, Alestorm's signature brand of Jolly Roger metal fuses traditional melodies (in this case, Irish and Scottish folk) to the backbone of heavy metal in all of its various incarnations. Released in 2009, Black Sails at Midnight differs little from the previous year's Captain Morgan's Revenge -- an octopus-faced Davey Jones still graces the cover in homage to Iron Maiden's iconic mascot ...
