| | Purely Buddy Holly CD Buddy Holly Discography of CDs
This two-disc, 40-track assortment of Buddy Holly sides features some that are well known ("Peggy Sue," "Words of Love") and others that are a good deal more obscure, including the very country-sounding "Blue Days, Black Nights," which Holly recorded in 1956 in the early phase of his Decca contract when all concerned were trying to figure out what to do with this guy. Decca never really did figure it out, but Holly did, and he ended up being arguably the most interesting and unique of the early stars of rock & roll. Other highlights collected here include "Not Fade Away," "That'll Be the Day," "Maybe Baby," and "Well...All Right," among others. It's not everything, by any means, and nothing distinguishes this set from dozens on the market just like it, but Holly's brief recording career, which really only lasted a couple years, was built on quality songs, and therefore any anthology of his material will be more than listenable. ~ Steve Leggett

| | Flux Capacitor They Know We Know CD (2009)
Purely Buddy Holly album
$13.69 For those who are less inclined with 1980’s pop culture trivia, a “Flux Capacitor” is what helped Marty McFly accomplish time travel in the classic film, ‘Back to the Future.’ And it’s now a very fitting name for a fast-rising band from Philadelphia, PA, who does a bit of musical “time traveling” themselves. Listing such stylistically varied bands as Cream, Nirvana, and Radiohead as their chief influences, Flux Capacitor is one of the few modern day jam bands that also manages to truly rock and swing – as evidenced by their latest release, ‘They Know We Know.’ Flux Capacitor is comprised of three brothers, Pete Specht-Vocals/Guitar, Mike Specht-Keyboard/Background Vocals, and Jason Specht-Drums (bassist Sean Moran is the only band member without Specht as his last name), and as Jason explains, is still a relatively new band. “The band started around October 2006. My brother Peter and I had been looking around trying to get a new band together, and we happened to run into Sean at a mutual friend’s party. He had been playing around the area with different people, so we talked about getting together to play. Pete and I already had a show booked, and we refused to cancel it even if we had to play it ourselves! So we rehearsed about a week and played the show. We had a really great response that first night, and that is pretty much what set the wheels in motion. Later, we were searching for a keyboardist that understood exactly what we were trying to do. After many auditions, my brother Michael stepped in and blew everyone away - that’s when we knew the band was complete.” From the get-go, Flux Capacitor’s members knew they had come across a special sound that sets them apart from the rest of the pack, as evidenced throughout ‘They Know We Know.’ Case in point, such groove-heavy tracks as “Big Bad ___,” “Drop It,” and especially the monstrous “Moth,” ‘They Know We Know’ is loaded with killer cuts, that should appeal equally to skaters, headbangers, and tie-dye wearers. “’The Game’ is one of my favorites,” adds Sean, “For being a great rockin’ track that ...
