It's heartening to see a post-millennial punk band upholding the legitimate politicized anger--and defiant hope--that stirred the original class of '77 and the hardcore bands of the mid-'80s. And although the band's music sounds current, with hints of thrash and other more recent sounds, their overall vibe is an homage to the simple, powerful, message-heavy music of their forebears. Anti-Flag's ninth studio album includes intense jeremiads about consumerism, the dismal economy, the greed behind both, the never-ending war in Iraq, and the bright flashes of optimism that reside in all of us. Stand-out tracks include the hardcore-ish "No War Without Warriors (How Do You Sleep)" and "On Independence Day," which shows off bassist Chris #2's chops.
Personnel: Anti-Flag (percussion); Justin Sane, Chris Head (vocals, guitar); Chris #2 (vocals, bass instrument); Tyler Kweder, Marc Riot, Marc Code, Jason Cantu, Corey Cameron (vocals); Pat Thetic (drums); Katie Bullers, Anna Schwartz (hand claps).
Audio Mixer: Mario J. McNulty.
Alternative Press (p.122) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Laced with vicious gang vocals and guitars that could electrocute, the album burns with the hunger of a band whose metaphorical battle - between the people and the gun -- extends far beyond the music industry." People Or The Gun album
$10.35 All but forgotten, the self-titled third full-length from New Jersey's Bouncing Souls never made much of an impact, yet it still has more highlights than it does embarrassing mistakes. A little rougher around the edges than the group's earlier recordings, the record opens with the near disorienting hardcore attack of "Cracked" before settling into some much more familiar territory. The back to back pop-punk bounce of "Say Anything" and "Kate Is Great" are probably the two most impressive tracks on the record, and once they are taken ...

People Or The Gun CD music
$9.99 In a contemporary landscape where what passes for "punk" is often little more than a watered-down, mega-mall version of the mighty music that once horrified authority figures the world over, it's nice to know that some bands can still rock with the same pre-irony, heart-on-the-sleeve sensibility that characterized the genre's greatest moments. On ANCHORS AWAY, the Bouncing Souls forego faddish Blink 182-esque smarminess in favor of a holy racket that sounds like the best mid-1980s CBGB's matinee that never was. In addition, the band has a keen sense of melody and guitar texture that perfectly frame the songs' ...

$12.99 Still enamored of the concept of the concept album more than four years after AMERICAN IDIOT, Green Day unveiled its rock-opera sequel, 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN, in 2009. Like its predecessor, BREAKDOWN wholeheartedly embraces the iconic punk-pop act's shift to a stadium-filling sound, while also remaining loyal to the San Francisco-based trio's progressive sociopolitical ...

People Or The Gun music CDs
$10.15 For many years, Dallas, Texas has produced bands with a predominately homogeneous style of music. This led progressive, indie rock band Aftertraces to be recognized as Dallas’ best-kept musical secret in their first year on the local music scene. But with the recent release of their self-titled EP, the secret is quickly getting out. Members of the four-piece have been playing together for almost ten years, and their history is evidenced on the record and in concert by the band’s tight sound and creative chemistry. Each new song redefines the parameters of their sound. Every live show raises the bar for performance. And a rapidly growing fan base bears witness to the unlimited potential of a band that will not settle for the limits the sky has to offer. The diverse musical background of each member of Aftertraces creates the perfect blend of pure song writing, devoted musicality, and raw emotion wrapped in a unique sound that engages all listeners ...
