When will they finally REMASTER this GEM?!!!
New Morning, much like Warren Zevon's self titled album on Asylum, is an overlooked masterpiece

Underrated classic
This is my current favorite Bob Dylan album, one which is usually overlooked or harshly judged when his career is looked at. This is joyous early-70s Dylan, and your friends will be amazed when you play it for them.

This is a bucket full of sunshine
What a wonderful album. New Morning fits wonderfully in Dylan's John Wesley Harding period -- the period from his motorcycle accident in 1966 to 1975. JWH seems to be the template for more consice, shorter songs; we're not hearing the blazing folk and rock of the '60s, but something still excellent and very musical. New Morning is the perfect example of this. This is an album that is very modern, very different; there's only one harmonica arrangement on the entire album, and only one song based on the 12-bar blues. Much of the record is piano and vocal pop, very similar to Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson. It's tricky to describe this album, except that it is a bucket full of sunshine. This is the polar opposite to Blood on the Tracks -- this moment in time is precisely what Dylan mourns in his 1975 masterpiece. Songs about domestic life, being a father, loving his wife, graduating college, visiting Elvis. Who wouldn't love that? Add in some wonderfully catchy melodies, and a singing voice that's just right (more Eddie Vedder or Randy Newman than anything), and you're set. I honestly recommend New Morning as a true overlooked gem.

The man in Him
This album is one of Dylans best displays of how well his lyrics are written. "Day of the Locusts" is a great song about when he was given a doctorate degree, he describes it so well, you feel like you are almost there.
