| surprisenly great get this for Howes playing on a super "gates of delerium" and the rest of this is pretty damn good.. By db (vero beach fl) This review is for a different format. |
| You must own this if you love Yes Great CD, although there are a couple minor flaws. "Parallels" is practically in mono here. "Ritual" has been divided into two tracks, and the medley of "Time And A Word" and "Going For The One" never happened. See "THE WORD IS LIVE" for the actual 1978-79 tour medley. Still, this is a nice "sequel" to "YESSONGS". By Bing Cherry (Mill Hollow, NY, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| Yesplease! Yes had, according to prog-rock legend, the second most expensive stage show in the whole wide world (after Emerson Lake and farmer Palmer) and this album captures them and their fearsomely expensive show at their most proggy between 1976 and 1978, when they entertained the masses with lasers, dry-ice and a light-show to rival the Blackpool illuminations. Tracks from album are mostly from later recordings and include "The gates of delirium" and "Ritual", two proper prog-rock 20-odd minute side-long epics, however the shorter tunes, reflecting changes in the Yes camp in the face of new-wave and punk, steal the show. The bestest tune on the whole album is without a doubt "Don't kill the whale" which receives a new lease of life when captured live (if that makes any sense) and the old school Yes is represented as always by the "Time and a word" track. Build up your Yes studio collection and then explore this live recording. By a reviewer (Somewhere in England.) This review is for a different format. |
| Vinyl vs CD well i own this on vinyl so i wouldn't know about the cd...are you serious, ritual's in two parts?...i like to transfer vinyls and cassettes to my computer, clean them up to sound perfect cd quality and then burn the on cd and i can see how putting ritual together (which ends side three and begins four?) would be easy as hell to put together as one song, so why didn't they...then again look at ELP's brain salad surgery....part one and part two of karn evil 9 1st impression is not together and i've never understood why, but yet another one that i own only on vinyl, so i can take out the fade out and fade in part merge them together and all is good unlike ritual which is just taking the fade out part off and merging it properly with the start of the song on the other...but anyways, a whole lot of crap not relevent.....i just wanted to know if you were serious that it's two tracks and if they're at least together properly or does it fade?...otherwise no one said time and a word and going for the one was a medley (if you look at the dates of the two song, you'll clearly see that neither was perform at the same time and nowhere on the record does it say it's a medley)....gates is just my favorite yes song, so this life version just makes it all that more spectacular....
