Odelia formed in Fullerton, CA in the fall of 2001. The band has an unstructured approach to creating music, incorporating loops and non-traditional rock instruments, switching off said instruments during songs, and a general DIY approach. The band's sound can be described as dynamic and atmospheric. Like their contemporaries, Odelia can be categorized in many genres. They have been described as experimental, post-rock, avant-rock, and instrumental. However, Odelia is comfortable with being described simply as a rock band. There is no single creator of Odelia's music. The band has distanced themselves from traditional song writing, their writing process is a collaborative, live experiment that stumbles over trial and error. The movement within the music is the focus, and vocals are used sparingly to enhance songs. Each song uniquely evolves in a dynamic range of sound and textures. Since 2001 Odelia has recorded four albums Argyplanischa (2002), The Angel as an Imposter (2003), Songs for a Clownfish (2006), and Don't Go Down To The Water (2009).
