Shane Allessio is an acoustic/electric bassist, composer/arranger and educator w/ experience in jazz, rock, fonk, and classical music. Originally from Amherst, MA, he now resides in Boston. He has performed and recorded with artists such as Joe Hunt, Dino Govoni, Phil Grenadier, Mike Tucker, Jack Perricone, and Yoron Israel among others, and has toured internationally with pianist Makoto Takenaka. He is currently principal bassist with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, and section bassist with the Cape Ann Symphony. In June 2008, the Shane Allessio Bass Band (SABB) made its debut performance at the New Hampshire Bass Fest. The band included Rufus Reid (acoustic bass), Jim Stinnett, Dave Buda, Steve Bailey, Todd Johnson (electric basses), Dino Govoni (reeds), Joe Hunt (drums), and Shane Allessio (composer/conductor). Following the New Hampshire Bass Fest, Shane was commissioned by Los Angeles bassist Todd Johnson to write three big band features. "The Chairman of the Board" died in May of 1998, yet his music sounds as vital and relevant today as ever. Released on the 10th anniversary of his death--in coordination with a slew of DVD releases commemorating the singer's acting career as well as an official U.S. Postal Service stamp--NOTHING BUT THE BEST provides an excellent look at Sinatra's tenure at the Reprise label. Among the album's 22 vintage cuts are classics such as "The Way You Look Tonight," "Luck Be a Lady," "Strangers in the Night," and "My Way." The disc also contains a bonus track in the previously unreleased recording of "Body and Soul." Diehard Sinatra fans will likely own most of this material, yet as a greatest hits set (albeit covering the Reprise years only) NOTHING BUT THE BEST lives up to its title.

After a quarter century apart, the core line-up of the jazz quartet Return to Forever--Chick Corea, Lenny White, Stanley Clark, and Al Di Meola--reunited for a world tour in 2008. On paper it seems as if such titanic and distinctive musical personalities as Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane might not mix very well, but this stellar set, recorded live at Carnegie Hall in 1957, plays almost like a blissful extended duet between the two (with support from a sensitive yet hard-swinging bassist and drummer). The opener, "Monk's Mood," for example, features the composer/pianist's typically brilliant, idiosyncratic playing, while Coltrane floats over the top in the most lyrical of modes. Monk, in particular, is a master of tension-and-release tunefulness, creating rhythmic and harmonic intricacies that seem to spur Coltrane's saxophone exploration to new heights.
The quartet shines on ballads ("Sweet and Lovely"), but the leaders display their best chemistry on the Monk's thorny, uptempo bop numbers. "Evidence" and "Epistrophy," for instance," have Monk adding rhythmic, dissonant punctuation to Coltrane's torrential stream of ideas, creating a thrilling push-pull balance. A superb date, and a must for fans of both artists, AT CARNEGIE HALL captures two of jazz's most important figures working in perfect symbiosis.

It seems incredible that Roberta Gambarini didn't win the Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition but she was new to the U.S., having just arrived from her native Italy. But with each new release, she has demonstrated that she is easily the most accomplished vocalist of the competitors for the prize. Pianist Hank Jones, who knows a thing or two about great singers, refers to her as the "greatest vocalist to come along in the past 60 years." On 2009's SO IN LOVE, with a rhythm section rotating among three talented up-and-coming pianists (Tamir Hendeman, Eric Gunnison, and Gerald Clayton), Gambarini works her magic with familiar standards and a few unexpected choices. She has a love of Cole Porter's songs, opening with a touching, richly textured version of the title song. Their music is fun and invites audience participation, and is perfectly suited for libraries, schools, fairs, corporate family gatherings, churches, and birthday parties.Yes, Kinder is their real name. (Kinder, German word meaning children as in kindergarten).Brian grew up in Fredericktown, Missouri where as a youngster he sang in churches, school programs and other social settings. During his teen years he was the drummer of a hometown rock and roll band. After high school graduation Brian spent several years in the Air Force where he took up playing guitar and writing songs. Following his tour of service he joined a successful Christian singing group and traveled throughout the Midwest before moving to central Arkansas in the early eighties, releasing two solo albums and performing at churches and youth camps throughout the region. It was at this time that Kinder developed his recipe for a successful solo performance consisting of good music, humor, and lots of audience participation. At Brian’s concerts, you didn’t just sit and listen. You got involved, and it was fun.Kinder graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1986 with a degree in music; in 2005 he received his masters in Liberal Arts. For more than 20 years he taught fine arts in the Little Rock public school district, where he distinguished himself, not only as a gifted teacher, but also as a talented songwriter. At the encouragement of a fellow teacher he auditioned and was accepted into the Arkansas Arts Councils roster of touring artists as a kid’s concert performer. Brian and Terri are also members of the Midwest Arts Alliance. He quickly gained notice as an original and unique artist of children’s music. His concerts are lively and interactive. Combining his guitar and banjo playing talent and his whimsical song writing skills, he amuses and entertains children of all ages. He weaves together stories and music to stir the imagination with tales drawn from his own life as well as from the lives of his family and friends. He has the ability through his songs to bring both young and old together as they laugh and sing, dance and clap along with the music.In 2002 Brian released his first album of twelve original kids songs, Brian Kinder A Kid Like You. Everybody loved it, kids, parents and grandparents. “GREAT”, says Lauren Ashburn of USA TODAY. The song, I Like Being A Kid, became Kinder’s trademark, and still happily announces the beginning of every concert. Special Days, came next with twenty-four songs, one for just about every holiday you can imagine. It was a project he had worked on for years, believing the collection was something school teachers and librarians needed. He was right. Special Days was released in June of 2003, and that summer was named Audio Pick of the Week by the national publication, School Library Journal. His third release, Brian Kinder Again, offered up another dozen fresh kids tunes, and also received high marks with SLJ. Kinder finished work on a fourth project, Brian Kinder One More Time, released to the public in September 2004. Like all of Kinder’s releases, it’s good clean fun. In 2006 “A” I Ate an Apple” was nominated for Best children’s song by the worlds largest independent music organization, Just Plain Folks. The Robin Song also quickly became a favorite concert staple as Ms Terri finally took a more visible role in the performance.
