Old Man's Child started out as a mere black metal band and was easily dismissed by those who favored the mighty Emperor or Immortal. Over the years Galder has continued to progress and take OMC out of the pure black metal circle. In 2009 comes "Slaves Of The World," which may be the best OMC to date. Crafty guitar work with tons of layed effects and elements give this a progressive black metal feel. While in itself a contridiction, as black metal is supposed to be simple, OMC combine their classic black metal sound with a almost Megadeth like ferocity in delivery. OMC in not just a back stop for Galder's work in Dimmu Borgir. In many ways, I prefer the music of OMC to that of Dimmu. The drumming on this release is handled by the amazing Peter Wildoer, who also gave Pestilence a swift kick in the arse. The only element of this release that I wasn't overly impressed with, is the vocals of Galder. While not bad, much of the vocal delivery lacks the conviction need for such a fine musical release. Throw in a crushing productions and you have one of the best post black metal releases of 2009.
