Broadcast's music has always been a little unearthly, so BROADCAST & THE FOCUS GROUP INVESTIGATE WITCH CULTS OF THE RADIO AGE isn't so much a departure as it is an inspired homage to their influences. VALERIE AND HER WEEK OF WONDERS and its alternately innocent and menacing soundtrack inspired the band years before the movie was rediscovered. The whimsy and strangely familiar feel of '60s and '70s library music could also be heard in their music from the beginning, but never more clearly than on this mini-album. When the producers and Mario decided together the repertoire to be performed, Mario doubted he might be able to reproduce stylistically songs of the classic American repertoire such as "Slow Hot Wind" and "On A Clear Day", or even "A Handful Of Soul". The result instead can be stunning to most. In this album, not only he delivers a very convincing interpretation but his voice adds a different colour to the music. In the past few years Mario collaborated with Alessandro Magnanini (Was-A-Bee), multi-faced musician as well as excellent arranger. Treyce' is a current member of Loving Missionary Baptist Church, Bloomington, IL, where Reverend William Johnson is Pastor.Treyce’was born in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, the twelfth child of the late Robert L. and Gloria M. Gaston. Her father played guitar and all of her seven brothers sang lead for different bands over the years. “My family enjoyed a wide range of music genres." Treyce’ has spent many years singing with a Baptist choir and is a willing worker in God’s house.Treyce’s performed with Illinois State University’s Creative Arts Ensemble, lead by then Director of Music, Dr. Frank Suggs. Dr. Suggs coached and gave voice lessons and exposed Treyce to many unique jazz and gospel sounds. Treyce’ had the pleasure of singing with “Valentino” in Las Vegas where they were opening for “The Imperials” at the Oasis Casino. Encouraged by her family, Treyce entered the Christian Artist Talent Search competition in 2002. Treyce’s entry into the Christian Artist Talent Search (C.A.T.S.) was under divine direction and proved to be a success when she was notified of her semi-finalist status. On May 23rd, 2008, Katie woke up in her New Zealand apartment to the sound of a bird singing outside her window. That same day, Phil went to a clinic in Germany to see about fixing a nagging cough. Mitch took his son fishing in Whitehorse. Drew went to a department store in Tokyo. It was, on the surface, a normal day for all of them, but one crucial difference was linking these people, along with others around the world: they were all helping to make the new album by Toronto-based electronic musician A.M. For his fourth independently-released album, A.M. invited friends, family and fans to record audio of whatever they happened to be doing on May 23rd, 2008, and send him the results. These clips were woven into his songs in a variety of ways: the birdsong that awoke Katie from New Zealand floats over airy plucked guitars on the lead track, “Good Morning”; the frantic “Preskription” is a dance track composed almost entirely of the sounds of doors slamming, patients coughing, and phones ringing in the German clinic. Taken as a whole, however, the results are much more than musical gimmickry.
