| | Rancid Let The Dominoes Fall CD Rancid Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Considering that Rancid's seventh studio album was largely written on acoustic guitars at new drummer Brandon Steineckert's small town Utah-based recording facility, one might guess that the band had mellowed. Not so: LET THE DOMINOES FALL is a particularly spirited set of the kind of anthemic old-school punk rock the band does best. The first single, "Last One To Die," sounds like the Pogues and the Clash in a drunken brawl at a Who concert, while other tracks recall the group's ska-punk roots in Operation Ivy. Produced by Bad Religion/Epitaph Records founder Brett Gurewirtz the record features Rancid's trademark mix of uncompromising music and insightful lyrics delivered in lead singer Tim Armstrong's inimitable mush-mouthed vocal style.

Rolling Stone (p.72) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[A] Rancid album par excellence -- a cannonball blast of punk classicism, alternating between galloping double-time punk pogos and the soulful swing that co-frontman Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen learned from the Clash." Spin (p.97) - "The sunny brutalism of Rancid's East Bay ska-thrash has lost nary a step and their ethical-emotional rigor is as sweet as it is pure." Alternative Press (p.121) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The 19 tracks on LET THE DOMINOES FALL range in length from 64 seconds to a whopping four-plus minutes, encompassing everything from circle-pit scenarios, brisk bluebeat workouts and heart-on-sleeve introspection." Billboard - "Over hard-charging rock, swinging ska-punk or just acoustic guitars and mandolins, Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen deliver another round of catchy choruses..." Let The Dominoes Fall CD music
$11.99 The Cinderella-esque climb from lo-fi indie cult artist to Grammy nominee/major label darling must have been a perilous one for Smith, who makes the leap to the big time here after three well-regarded albums on small labels. He's lost none of his bite, though. The production values on XO may be slightly higher, but Smith's vision remains undiluted.
The production, centered around acoustic guitar augmented by keyboards and lush vocal harmonies, recalls pop icons like the Beach Boys (especially on the closing acapella cut), Beatles and Big Star, but this is no sunny Cali-pop album. Leavening the instrumental brightness are Smith's Nick Drake-ish whisper and his thoroughly downcast ...

$11.99 On his first record since his Oscar nomination courtesy director Gus Van Zandt's use of his music in the film "Good Will Hunting," Elliott Smith returns with another album's worth of gorgeous misery. Like Nick Drake before him, Smith has the ability to conjure beautifully poignant pathos, wrapping it in an elaborately arranged package worthy of a George Martin or Brian Wilson. Working with Beck/Foo Fighters producer Rob Schnapf, Smith ...

Let The Dominoes Fall songs
$12.05 This Montreal ensemble's fiery debut is marked by surging guitars, soulful strings, driving drums, brilliant bass lines, and the quavering vocals of married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. The group's song structures careen through a vast territory of musical and personal history, with lyrics warm with memories of childhood neighborhoods and deceased loved ones, resulting in an alternating current of joy and sadness.
Favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and Broken Social Scene, the Arcade Fire's sound seems to come from a lifetime ...

$12.05 Almost three years after the Arcade Fire's 2004 full-length debut, FUNERAL, stunned indie-rock fans with its majestic scope and romantic ferocity, the Montreal-based ensemble returned with NEON BIBLE. Although the album lacks the from-out-of-nowhere punch of the former record, it serves as a fitting successor, with the group's sweeping sound ...
