| | Kevin Kern Embracing The Wind CD (2001)
Om Sweet Om CD music
$13.09 As far as new age pianists go, Kevin Kern is far less known than either Jim Brickman or David Lanz, but his lush, melodic meditations fall somewhere in between the music of those two. It's far less direct and poppy than Brickman, and slightly less dramatic and conceptual than Lanz. The concept here was for label owner Terence Yallop to offer images to Kern in the studio, which Kern would then develop into full-fledged impressionistic pieces. Kern calls it an interchange of ideas featuring external and internal stimuli. Whatever their source, these are simply beautiful pieces perfect for dreaming, meditating, or stress relief. "Blossom on the Wind" opens the disc on a brooding, haunting note, with gentle orchestration sweeping the listener into a dreamscape. "Through Your Eyes" has more of a pop/classical flavor, catchy and bright from the middle register. "Childhood Remembered" is (like the opening track) more sparse and features a chamber music flavor. Many of these ...

$39.39 | | Cheryl B Engelhardt Shoes Off And Run CD (2004)
Om Sweet Om songs
$14.79 Singer/songwriter/pianist Cheryl B. Engelhardt cannot remember a time when she wasn't playing the piano. She has been writing piano pieces since age 5, involved in vocal groups since high school, and formally studying music since her entry to Cornell University, where she received her degree. Upon moving to the New York area, Cheryl immediately involved herself with the songwriter scene, playing her own material wherever she could, from open mics to headlining in Manhattan clubs. By playing keys in rock groups, Cheryl started to make enough connections to form her own band. Her bass, drums, guitar, keys quartet has also invited saxophone and string players to join their recordings and live performances. Every show is an explosion of innovations and unmistakable intellect, from music video screenings to emotionally charged classical renditions of original rock songs.Cheryl continues to construct her own musical path drawn from her desire for overcoming challenges to write vividly real and emotional lyrics. Cheryl's storytelling embodies painful desire for success, satirical views of the opposite sex, and her personal experiences in love. Her lyrics are dramatically supported by her piano performances ...
| | Nois 4 Bom Dia CD (2000)
Om Sweet Om album
$13.85 As Meninas is Portuguese for "the girls." The name was adopted provisionally when vocalist Monica Vasconcelos and saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock were auditioning for gigs in London. But the name stuck, even though two men have since joined: guitarist Ife Tolentino and drummer/percussionist Chris Wells. The four members hail from around the globe, but they live and work in London, where their elegant Brazilian stylings are particularly well received.
Much of the music on Bom Dia is strongly reminiscent of the jazz-influenced bossa nova style introduced by Stan Getz and Joao and Astrud Gilberto on the classic 1963 album Getz/Gilberto. But As Meninas puts its own stamp on the genre. Although they perform famous Jobim songs such as "Insensatez" and "Dindi," they also shed light on lesser-known figures ...
