Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles; Director's Comments Actor-comedian Martin Lawrence (BAD BOYS, BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE) aims for the heartstrings and funny bones in WELCOME HOME ROSCOE JENKINS, a raucous helping of family soul food. Lawrence plays R.J. Stevens (in truth, Roscoe Steven Jenkins), a Hollywood self-help sensation whose fame has netted him a reality television star fiancée (Joy Bryant) while simultaneously alienating his young son. Having been away from his family for nine years, prodigal son R.J. returns to Georgia to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of his parents (James Earl Jones and Margaret Avery). Upon his arrival, R.J. is given a rude awakening by his none-too-impressed siblings (Mike Epps, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Mo'Nique). R.J. must also contend with his ultra-competitive cousin Clyde (Cedric the Entertainer), the family's presumptive "golden boy" and a long-time rival who stole the affections of R.J.'s childhood sweetheart, Lucinda (Nicole Ari Parker). As the celebration weekend rolls on, R.J.'s craving for his father's respect and an inflated sense of self threaten family harmony and his opportunity to reconnect with Lucinda, and--worst of all--his relationship with his own son. Lawrence makes Roscoe a genuinely sympathetic foil to the comedic antics of Mo'Nique and Epps, both of whom are given room to riff by director Malcom D. Lee (UNDERCOVER BROTHER, ROLL BOUNCE). Frequently bawdy but thoroughly entertaining, WELCOME HOME ROSCOE JENKINS is also a warmhearted reminder that you are where you come from, and that when searching for yourself no one can put you straight better than a loving family. | | Will Preston It's My Will CD (2005)
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins DVD
$7.99 A certain number of points must be deducted for the terribly lame pun of the album title, but other than that, Will Preston's debut is a likeable piece of neo-soul crooning. Slickly produced but not crassly manufactured-sounding, It's My Will showcases an old-school R&B crooner persona, more along the elegant lines of Lou Rawls or Gerald LeVert than the more overtly sexy love-man type. Preston is entirely in control throughout this record, so much so that at times the listener almost wishes that the heat would be turned up a couple of notches: the lost-love ballad "We Should've Stayed" would have been a bit more effective with just a little more emotion on Preston's part. However, songs as suave and romantic as "Queen" and as smoothly assertive as "It's Real" are always welcome, and overall, It's My Will is a fine addition to the too often overlooked quiet storm approach. ~ Stewart Mason
In case you've wondered if real singers still exist, you'll find the answer in Will Preston. Will is a multitalented singer/songwriter who possesses that rare quality that enables him to captivate all audiences. His music is a sophisticated blend of R&B and Pop, and the delivery is first class. His style is a throwback to days when perfect gentlemen reigned supreme. With a silky smooth voice that glides effortlessly through each note, Will is poised to become a major force in this business we call "show". It is easy to argue that he is a balladeer whose soulfulness is reminiscent of greats like Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway and Luther Vandross. In addition to these A list artists, Will counts Brian McKnight, Stevie Wonder, Gerald LeVert, and Fred Hammond among his favorites. "I love music. If you ask me the same question tomorrow, the answer could be more inclusive. I don't think any single person has had a predominant influence on my style. Rather, it's a combination of many singers that I've enjoyed over the years."With his debut release, "It's My Will", Will takes us on an emotional journey of love. From the ups to the downs and the in betweens, he gently takes us through it all. When asked about the album's recurring theme, Will offers, "Love is something that we all need and want. Nothing evokes a greater feeling than knowing that you are loved." Along with hit producer Funkeeboy, Will set out to create an album that would be enjoyed for years to come. "It was important for us to select songs with substance. If we weren't feeling a song we'd scratch it off the list and move on. The vibe in the studio was great. We worked tirelessly to create something that people will enjoy for a long time. I think it really shows in the music." This release not only establishes Will as a great vocalist but as a credible writer as well. He penned most of the songs on the album including the title track "It's My Will". Will has managed to recapture that time in music history when songs told a story. Anyone who's ever been in love will relate to these songs. The journey begins with the funky guitar driven track "My Love". You realize at that very moment you're in for something special. "Second Chance" is a dramatic ballad that deals with someone pleading for another opportunity to make things the way they were supposed to be, while the fiery "Afterplay" reminds every man that true love is deeper than sex and physical attraction. "It's My Will" is an infectious mid tempo ballad that's sure to have you ...
