| | Monique Barry Carbon CD Monique Barry Discography of CDs
New CD Burns With Creative HeatSinger-songwriter Monique Barry launches a combustive new set of songs and takes up her own green initiative to boot with the release of her third CD Carbon. An acknowledged master in the creation of “delicious sounds and shadows” (RHiG Magazine), Monique’s first two albums, moody and Tripping, revealed a musing, meditative style unlike any other. On Carbon she directs her pensive powers into her most mature and expressive effort to date, with environmental dynamics and emotional jeopardy running through the album’s themes. In the world of Carbon, the elemental meets the sentimental. From track to track, changing backgrounds and inhospitable landscapes define relationships. Middleclass gives us an emotionally hazardous environment where the waters are “too cold to swim in.” Mockingbird profiles an outcast who “takes every word to its core,” turning language into its own toxic turf. And the title track gets a good deal of its traction from its presentation of car travel as a symbol of personal liberty and pollution the price we pay for it. Providing variations on mood and theme is the three-part series of Stocker tracks: Vocal Stocker, Slowdance Stocker, and Ambient Stocker, which go from ghostly vibrations to dance-floor drifting to starglow atmospherics. Accompanying Monique’s soaring vocals and coaxing keyboards is regular bandmate Nadjiwan on guitar, as well as Dave Buland on bass and Alex Mine on drums. Also joining Monique once again is ambient maestro Terry O’Brien (aka Anomalous Disturbances), providing seductive electronic soundscapes with both supernatural and space age fascination. Other players on Carbon include N.Q. Arbuckle on vocals and violinist Ariana Nasr (from Thugs at Bay), who previously brought her bewitching work to most of the songs on moody. Dics are available at any time to those interested, but Monique requests that listeners who rely on computers and portable devices to enjoy their music to consider purchasing the electronic version of Carbon. All ordered discs of Carbon come in a home-made cover using minimal packaging. Monique Barry Carbon Songs | 1. | Vocal Stocker |

Carbon album
$14.54 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly dreamy state that's faithful to the crooner of Come Away with Me while feeling decidedly less classicist. Some of this could be attributed to Jones' choice of producer, Jacquire King, best-known for his work with Modest Mouse and Kings of Leon, but King hardly pushes Norah in a rock direction; The Fall does bear some mild echoes of Fiona Apple or Aimee Mann in ballad mode, but its arrangements never call attention to themselves, the way that some Jon O'Brien productions do. Instead, the focus is always on Jones' voice and songs, ...
| | Tom Petty Live Anthology CDs (2009)
Carbon CD music
$19.98 It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live Anthology finally provides. Like its closest cousin, Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-1985, Live Anthology almost overcompensates for the long wait by offering almost too much music, cherrypicking highlights from 1978 to 2007. In its simplest incarnation, Live Anthology is a super-affordable, four-disc box set running 48 tracks, which is eight cuts longer than Springsteen's box, plenty long enough for most fans, but in its deluxe version, available only through Best Buy, there's an additional CD, plus two previously unreleased DVDs -- a 1978 New Years Eve concert from Santa Monica, a documentary called 400 Days shot during the Wildflowers tour -- a Blu-Ray edition of all 62 tracks on the five-CD version, a vinyl copy of the 1976 Official Live 'Leg LP, plus a book and lithograph, along with other assorted bonuses. Certainly, the deluxe edition lives up to its billing, offering enough ...
| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
Carbon music CDs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron (I Desire)," both of which originally appeared on the soundtrack for the first chapter of Peter Jackson's beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. ~ James Christopher Monger

| | Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Eve And Other Stories CD (1996)
Carbon CD music
$9.95 What would happen if members of Savatage decided to write some Christmas songs? Easy: Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This "supergroup" is the brainchild of Jon Oliva and Paul O'Neill (respectively the leader-keyboardist and the producer of Savatage). They hired Al Pitrelli (Asia, Savatage) to play guitars, Robert Kinkel to help with keyboards, John Middleton (also a member of Savatage) on bass, and Jeff Plate on drums. Lead vocals are shared by six vocalists, while some of the backing vocals are handled by Savatage lead singer Zachary Stevens. Christmas Eve and Other Stories is a concept album: all the songs are built as chapters of a book, each telling part of a larger story. The plot here is of a young angel sent down to Earth to find and bring back to the Lord "the one thing that best represents everything good that has been done in the name of this day." The angel's quest takes him all over the world, through Russia and Sarajevo, until he finally hears the prayer of a father. This last piece is the strongest moment on the album and makes for a miniature story within the larger story. It is basically told in a trilogy of songs: in the first, "Ornament," we hear the father's prayer, ...
