THE RILL THING represented Little Richard's most serious attempt at a comeback since his 1950s heyday. "Freedom Blues," Richard's debut Reprise single, released in April 1970, was a mid-chart hit, his first in five years. "Greenwood Mississippi," released as a single concurrently with the album, also charted. Richard adopted a Cajun/country-rock approach (even covering "Lovesick Blues"), with a heavy beat and twangy guitar backing up his rough, forceful vocals. Despite the indulgence of the rambling ten-minute instrumental title track, the LP was a convincing update on his early work.

Jeevan Betigeri has been in the realm of songwriting for a few years now. Primarily a keyboardist, Jeevan infuses different musical genres and sounds into his scores, thereby giving them a unique identity. Born and brought up in India and presently residing in Dallas, Texas, Jeevan has had a wide array of influences during his forming years. This, combined with the ability to program, sequence and mix his own songs, has contributed to establishing his identity as a composer. Jeevan Betigeri's new offering is called Terra Firma, a homogeneous mixture of ambience and percussive grooves that creates a wide array of textures. The tremendous effort of many months that went in producing Terra Firma was not just fulfilling but it also opened up many different ideas that Jeevan explored upon. Here are a few excerpts of the production notes of Terra Firma:The title track, Terra Firma, was actually an after thought. The other tracks of the CD were done, and they all had percussive grooves in them. So there was a need being felt to have a slower, softer, lusher, ambience filled track that would add a contrast to the other tracks. So the effort started with the recording of a 'Water Drop' (with literally a bucket half filled with water and a toy syringe held high to drop droplets of water into the bucket to get that one good water drop sound). However, with an addition of a very simple heavy-sounding synth sounds, the entire texture and the overall layout of this track changed resulting in how the track sounds today. The way "A courtesan Enthralls" began was also very interesting. It began with a tabla rhythm. However, a chance re-sampling of the tabla with different effects resulted in a very exotic sounding groove that became the backbone of the track. Then came along the ambient and synth sounds with melodies that fit right into the percussion and the song had evolved.Amongst the other tracks, "There's Kilimanjaro" is a rather simplistic track but a one that is percussively very powerful ...
