Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Vincent Price has one of his juiciest roles in this haunted-house thriller as millionaire playboy Frederick Loren, who invites five guests out to a genuine haunted house, offering them each $10,000 if they spend the night. Elisha Cook Jr. plays one of the guests, a nervous alcoholic who has been in this house before and witnessed some terrible things. Mr. Loren's beautiful but treacherous wife (Carol Ohmart) is also present--and might be out to kill Frederick during the course of the evening; then again, he might be out to kill her. Severed heads, a skeleton, an acid vat, ghostly screams, and a noose that creeps around on its own and strangles unsuspecting victims are just some of the treats in a film that has been spooking delighted audiences on late-night TV for decades. Producer-director William Castle (THE TINGLER) claimed this was filmed in a process called Emergo, which meant that at a key moment a glow-in-the-dark skeleton on a wire was rigged to sail over the audience's heads. The skeleton is long since gone, but the goofy thrills remain in this classic tale, from a script by Robb White. A 1999 remake of this film starred Geoffrey Rush and Famke Janssen. House On Haunted Hill Quotes/Excerpts: "This is what she used on my brother and her sister...Hacked 'em to pieces. We found parts of the bodies scattered all over the house. Funny thing is, the heads were never found. Hands, feet...things like that, but no heads."--Watson Pritchard (Elisha Cook Jr.) after pulling a knife out of a drawer and brandishing it at the other guests
"You mean there's two heads just floating around here?"--Lance Schroeder (Richard Long)
"You can hear them at night; they whisper to each other."--Pritchard House On Haunted Hill | List Price | $9.95 (You save $2.96) | | Studio | Legend Films | | Orig Year | 1958 | | All Time Sales Rank | 101269 | | CD Universe Part number | 7944984 | | Catalog number | 496 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jun 16, 2009 | | Rating | Not Rated | | Running Time | 75 Minutes | | Additional Info | Full Frame | | Movie Details | B&W; Full Frame |

You Can't Go Wrong with Vincent Price Although a Castle gimmick film, it does have a good storyline, a creepy setting, and the unforgettable Vincent Price. Carol Ohmart is deliciously evil as Price's wife. Submitted by tintin84105 (Woods Cross, UT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Chilling Saw this film at the tender age of 6..still have nightmares! Excellent horror of it's day. Submitted by a reviewer (Connecticut, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
The Original Haunted House Classic with Vincent Price! During the 1950's and 60's William Castle made many gimmicky horror classics, this is one of them. This one stars incent Price, and is not to be confused with the 1998 remake.
For those who may not have seen it yet, The House On Haunted Hill concerns a millionaire, Frederick Loren,(Vincent Price) who invites 6 people (played by Richard Long, Alan Marshall, Carolyn Craig, Elisha Cook Jr., Julia Mitchum, Leona Anderson, and Howard Hoffman) to a "party" at a haunted house, hosted by himself and his wife(Carol Ohmart)promising to pay them $10,000 each if they can survive the night. Strange and unexplainable events occur and the viewer is left wondering: who will survive? The twist ending is a masterpiece!
To be honest, there were some age spots and some very mild grain in the picture, but overall I found the movie very enjoyable. Even more suprising was the addition of three original trailers of William Castle's other films (Mr. Sardonicus, Zotz! and Homicidal) as well as a text biography of William Castle. There are also scene selections as well. Overall a pleasing, but not perfect, presentation by Platinum Disc Corporation.
This film is highly recommended for Vincent Price fans!

| | Psychotic Revelation: The Ultimate Count Five CD (2003)
House On Haunted Hill review
$14.55 Though Collectables' Psychotic Reaction: The Complete Psychotic Reaction did include every one of the band's 18 officially released tracks, Big Beat's Psychotic Revelation: The Ultimate Count Five does indeed replace it as the ultimate Count Five compilation. It's not just because it includes every one of those 18 tracks and then some, with half a dozen unreleased outtakes, demos, and unedited versions. It's also because there's a great 24-page booklet on the history of the band by Alec Palao that clears up much of the mystery surrounding the Count Five, with quotes from most of the members. While the additional material is neither that revelatory or voluminous, it does include some nice bonuses. Prominent among them is the original unedited version of "Psychotic Reaction," with a previously unheard tag and key change at the end, though Double Shot Records was wise to release the reassembled version that became the big hit. Also on hand is an unedited version of "They're Gonna Get You" from the Count Five's sole LP, as well as a demo of the group's non-LP single "Contrast" ...
| | Animals Retrospective CD (2004)
House On Haunted Hill DVD
$13.65 Today the most recognition the Animals get is "House of the Rising Sun" being played on oldies radio, but in the mid-1960s they were a powerful part of the British Invasion, often reckoned on a par with the Beatles, the Stones, and the Who. Like those bands, the Animals had strong roots in blues and R&B, but, in their original incarnation, they stayed closer to those roots than their peers did. This definitive compilation, masterfully assembled by the ABKCO think tank of Teri Landi and Jody Klein, shows the tough, uncompromising use to which the Animals put their American influences. John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is recast as a raw garage rocker glazed with Alan Price's sinister organ riffs, and the aforementioned "House of the Rising Sun" is transformed from a traditional folk lament to an urgent, ominous piece of churning tumult.
Of course, the group skillfully expanded those roots (with the help of some great writers), and turned out some classic working-class-rebel anthems ("We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "It's My Life"). ...
| | Rod Argent Argent/Ring Of Hands CDs (2000) (Import) Import; United Kingdom
House On Haunted Hill movie DVD
$22.99 Argent's back catalog remains in a parlous state 20 years on from the group's peak, with great swathes of the repertoire unavailable on CD, and even some of the band's best-known and loved recordings are still chained up in a vault somewhere. Thankfully, this two-fer rendering of their first two albums is an exception to that sorry rule, as the group's transformation from the logical successors to the Zombies into one of the finest prog bands of the early '70s is traced out across 19 songs, almost any of which would be a shoo-in for some future "best-of" Argent compilation. It is true, of course, that Argent was prone to excess on occasion -- what is remarkable is just how naturally the band approached that state, as songs build on their own momentum toward peaks that even the best oiled of the group's peers audibly struggled to approach. The combination of Rod Argent's keys and Russ Ballard's words and vocals is, of course, key to this success, and both "Dance in the Smoke" and "Lothlorien" offer firm pointers as to just how tight the union would become. Elsewhere, "Liar," "Schoolgirl," ...

$15.95 For all the multi-cultural hippie freedom Sly and the Family Stone stood for in their pre-RIOT glory days, frontman Sly Stone was smart and talented enough to know that it was through catchy pop singles that his band's message would gain its widest dissemination. All 11 of Sly and the Family Stone's Top 40 hits are here (some of which, like "Hot Fun in the Summertime" and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" were never on LPs back in the day), along with nearly every track from both of the band's career high point albums, 1969's STAND and 1971's THERE'S A ...
| | Doors Other Voices/Full Circle CD (2006) (Import) Import; Germany
House On Haunted Hill film
$32.85 This German release combines two albums by psychedelic rock pioneers the Doors: OTHER VOICES (1971) and FULL CIRCLE (1972).
This European import CD contains both Doors' LPs Other Voices (1971) and Full Circle (1972). John Densmore (drums/vocals), Ray Manzarek (keyboards/bass pedals/vocals) and Robbie Krieger (guitar/vocals) anticipated having new material readied once Jim Morrison returned from his sabbatical in Paris, France. As his vocals would not be forthcoming, the remaining three-piece lineup forged ahead to complete the tracks. With stylistic continuity bleeding over from L.A. Woman, Other Voices is considered the most cohesive of the pair with primary entries including the blues-fueled opener "In the Eye of the Sun" and the esoteric love song "Ships w/ Sails." Listen for guest musicians Ray Neapolitan (electric bass), Willie Ruff (standup acoustic bass), and Francisco Aguabella's unmistakable conga and percussion. The Doors prove their capabilities as a no-nonsense rock & roll trio on the ...

House On Haunted Hill review
$9.85 Pluto Nash (Eddie Murphy) is the coolest guy on the moon in the year 2080. He is revered by street criminals for his former career as a smuggler of black market Earth goods. And he is admired by the upper crust for his success in running Club Pluto, the trendiest night spot in the city of Little America. But because Pluto is so popular, he is hated by Rex Crater (identity is a spoiler), a mob mogul who runs a corrupt casino, the Lunar Grand, in the nearby city of Moon Beach. When Rex offers to buy out Club Pluto, Nash refuses, and soon he is on the run from a band of Rex's henchmen. Nash's lovely employee, Dina (Rosaria Dawson), and his ...

$8.79 FIREWALL: Jack Stanfield (Harrison Ford) is an average family man in Seattle who heads up the hi-tech security team at his local bank. But following a seemingly trivial case of identity theft, Jack's life is turned upside-down when he discovers that his wife (Virginia Madsen) and two kids have been kidnapped. The ransom? A mere $100 million, which the kidnappers, led by Bill Cox (Paul Bettany), want Jack to obtain for them via his expert computer skills. Initially compliant, Jack is soon irked by Cox and his cronies to the point where he decides to get his family back and bring the bad guys to justice.
16 BLOCKS: Directed by Richard Donner (SUPERMAN, LETHAL WEAPON), 16 BLOCKS is a tale of corrupt police officers, a Grand Jury witness, and one cop who is trying to do the right thing. Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) is weary. A lame leg and a love affair with alcohol make him a virtual joke at the NYPD. Tired and ready to head home, Mosley is assigned one last job before he can punch out: pick up petty thief Eddie Bunker (Mos Def) in lock-up ...
