| | New Rhodes Everybody Loves A Scene CD - Import New Rhodes Discography of CDs
2009 sophomore album from the London-based quartet. Inspired by the likes of Joy Division, The Smiths and The Strokes, the album sees the band continue with the British Indie Rock sound they've been reinventing since 2006. New Rhodes journey from Bristol to Hackney in London has seen them release a half dozen singles, all of which received support from the likes of MTV2, The Amp, XFM, Radio 1, Radio 2, Virgin and the critics. With new drummer Tim Desmond joining James Williams (vocals and guitar), Joe Gascoign (guitar), and Jack Ashdown (bass) the line up was complete for the long awaited release of their debut album Songs From The Lodge. The album received critical acclaim both in the UK and abroad, including winning Best Unsigned band award at the Vodafone Music awards. Everybody Loves A Scene album
$9.55 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when ...

| | Lady Gaga Fame Monster CD (2009)
Everybody Loves A Scene CD music
$8.79 Initially planned solely as a standard double-disc reissue in the wake of the blockbuster success of The Fame, Lady Gaga decided to release the new material as a separate EP called The Fame Monster in addition to the standard two-CD set, where it's tacked onto a now standardized version of her debut. It's a nice move for fans, plus it helps emphasize the new material, which does act as a bridge from the debut to a forthcoming full-length. Everything on The Fame Monster bears a galvanized Eurotrash finish, as evident on the heavy steel ...
| | Mike Longo New York '78 CD (1997)
Everybody Loves A Scene music CDs
$16.45 These six big-band compositions were conceived as a suite and recorded in 1978, only to be shelved for nearly two decades. The music was intended to capture the flavor of 1970s New York City, so it inevitably comes across as a bit dated. That said, the album boasts an interesting assemblage of players indeed: Junior Cook and Bob Mintzer on saxes, Slide Hampton and Curtis Fuller on trombones, Jon Faddis and Randy Brecker on trumpets, and more. Longo plays both acoustic and electric piano, and Bob Cranshaw lays down the funk on electric bass. The epic "A Point Beyond," with solid percussion by Steve Kroon and nice solos from Brecker and Cook, yields the album's most substantial rewards. "Keep Searchin'," with its laid-back groove, is a close second (a misprint lists it at 7:52 in length instead of 2:52). While the recording sounds a bit muffled and inconsistent in volume, the group's stellar musicianship comes across. Only a player like Longo, steeped in bebop and endlessly resourceful, would think to quote "Sweet Georgia Brown" during the Fagen-esque disco track "Down Under." ~ David R. Adler
Recorded in 1978.
Personnel: Mike Longo (piano, electric piano); George Davis (guitar); Junior Cook, Bob Mintzer (tenor saxophone); Jon Faddis, Randy Brecker (trumpet); Curtis Fuller, Slide Hampton (trombone); John Hicks (Clavinet); Benny Aronov (synthesizer); David Lee (drums); Steve Kroon (congas, percussion).
Recording information: Nola Recording Studios, New York, NY.
Mike Longo: New York ’78What you are about to hear expresses the energy and spirit of the turbulent and emotional 1970’s. The music that pianist/compose/arranger/author/teacher, Mike Longo. Wrote for this recording reflects his environment, the times, the politics, and the rhythms of his adopted city, New York, during the 70’s. Mike and his friends-and what a heavy bunch they are-created a symphony of the times by layering the rhythms: latin, funk, gospel, rock, and jazz for the faithful. Mike utilized the basic musical tools that were causing the public to dance and buy records, but overlaid those elements with stimulating and challenging ...

| | Opsvik & Jennings Dream I Used To Remember CD (2009)
Everybody Loves A Scene songs
$10.59 Eivind Opsvik and Aaron Jennings have teamed up for their third album. Over the years, their sound and approach to music making has been constantly changing, but it always seems to retain a unique quality - they gravitate towards melodies that grow on the listener over time. The wonderfully strange and timeless themes juxtaposed with sound experimentation seem to come from a wide variety of influences. One might hear the echo of a Richard Strauss horn fanfare, or the admiration of a guitar sound from a record by The Byrds, or a childhood fascination with songs from those 40's Disney cartoons... you never know.Opsvik, who grew up in Oslo, Norway, has made a name for himself primarily as a bassist in NYC, but also as a composer, record producer, and general multi-instrumentalist. Jennings, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, focuses his energy mainly on song-writing and unusual guitar and banjo parts for the band. Perhaps, in part, their unique sound is a result of their very different backgrounds and inspirations - Jennings has a quirky melodic sensibility stemming from his interest in a wide range of old and new pop music, while Opsvik is heavily involved in the improvised music scene and finds inspiration in his classical training. But they feed off each other in creative ways and use these differences to their advantage. While most of their working time is spent exploring in the studio, they can frequently ...
