First time on CD for this 1977 album from the actor and singer, who was riding high due to his starring role on the hit TV series Starsky & Hutch. While many think of David Soul as an actor who pursued a singing career, it was actually the other way around. Soul began his career as a singer, but by the time fame knocked on his door, he had established himself as an in-demand actor on television. Although barely causing a ripple in the U.S., Playing To An Audience Of One spent five months in the UK Top 30!

Playing To An Audience Of One CD music
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, not melody. Still, there's not that much new here -- and the coda of seasonal covers, including the first sober version of "Nutrocker" ...

$21.49 The nickname "red" could be the most widely used in jazz or any musical genre; in the meantime, that a sub-category relating to bassists with this nickname exists should never be doubted. There is even a jazz anecdote relating to a band leader calling an apartment shared by two bassists, both known as "red", and hiring the wrong one. At least he was not looking for red balaban, whose real name was leonard balaban and like many trade jazz artisans was also adept at tuba. Balaban's background is florida, where he was playing in regional bands beginning in the mid '50s. From 1966 he held forth in new york city at your father's mustache, a popular dixieland venue and not a perch for gravy or milk. Besides being an active leader, balaban backed. Players such as wild bill davidson, eddie condon, gene krupa, dick wellstood and kenny davern all utilized him in their rhythm sections on either or both of his instruments. In 1975 he took over the club owned by condon, putting him in a good position to declare his new status as house band leader. The management's ...
