| | Ace Hood Ruthless CD Ace Hood Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
On his sophomore album, RUTHLESS, Florida-based rapper Ace Hood waxes lyrical about the trials and tribulations of the rap game, comparing the cutthroat industry to a sporting event. Backed by such heavyweights as Rick Ross, Akon, and T-Pain, Hood certainly seems poised to knock this one out of the park.
After gaining a sizable audience with his debut album GUTTA, Ace Hood returned just seven months later with a more polished follow-up, the mis-titled RUTHLESS. For those desiring the more radio friendly side of the gruff rapper, the album offers plenty of bedroom numbers and club tracks along with a big list of superstar guests including Akon, Lloyd, Rick Ross, and T-Pain. For everyone else, this is too much too soon and awfully inconsistent with some swagger numbers succeeding splendidly (the highly infectious "Loco with the Cake" or maybe "Born an OG" with Ludacris in full party mode) while others just fail (the bland "Champion"). To his credit, Hood dominates "Overtime" even with Akon and T-Pain as guests and on the closing "Make a Toast" he brings the guts, sounding like the unforgiving victor he was on Gutta. If the sound quality was rougher and the attitude was looser, this would come off as one of those mixtapes where collabos and lesser tracks pacify the faithful in-between official albums. The casual listener should just check the hits.XXL (Magazine Publisher) (p.90) - "Check the inspiring Jazmine Sullivan and Rick Ross collaboration 'Champion' -- with its wistful imagery and pummeling drums -- finding Hood finally pairing substance with vigor." | | Pretty Ricky Bluestars CD (2005)
Ruthless music CDs
$10.09 "Get You Right," a smooth throwback ballad from Miami outfit Pretty Ricky's debut, BLUESTARS, features a hardcore rap that name-checks 1990s groups H-Town and Jodeci. While the four youthful brothers of Pretty Ricky were likely in grade school when these artists had their hits, it's a fitting reference; the quartet's sound reveals an innate feel for the New Jack Swing sound of that time. This approach is evident in both the record's production and its raw sensuality, and the overall vibe is updated with a Dirty South sensibility.
Pretty Ricky features three rappers--Slick, Spectacular, and Diamond--augmented by the resonant voice of Pleasure, whose alluring style falls somewhere between Stevie Wonder and R. Kelly. The subject matter of BLUESTARS tends toward that of the latter (but often hints at the depth of the former), moving from seductions sweet and innocent ("I Want You [Girlfriend]") to raw and lascivious ("Grind with Me") to a combination of the two ("Playhouse," "Can't Live Without You"). Pretty Ricky effortlessly creates soulful music that defies any one time or genre on this impressive debut.

| | Chamillionaire Sound Of Revenge CD (2005) Parental Advisory
Ruthless songs
$13.19 With THE SOUND OF REVENGE, Chamillionaire's 2005 Universal debut, the Houston-based rapper makes the most of his major-label deal, which includes his own Chamillitary imprint. On SOR, Paul Wall's former collaborator amps up that duo's signature chopped-and-screwed mixtape sound with heavy-duty arrangements that expertly showcase Chamillionaire's deep, husky voice. The introductory title track is marked by machine-gun beats, and establishes the album's fierce, restless mood. But the disc's highlight is the utterly infectious single "Turn It Up," ...
