| | Nazareth The Anthology CD Nazareth Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Although everyone's heard their classic power ballad "Love Hurts" (originally written for the Everly Brothers), and many also know the contemporaneous single "Hair of the Dog," perhaps only their loyal fans realize that Scottish hard rockers Nazareth have continued a full-bodied recording and touring career that has extended well into the new millennium. This comprehensive two-disc collection gathers the band's best material, starting with the frantic boogie of the title track of their third album Razamanaz. The anthology includes the rest of the '70s hits, as well as selections from their lesser-acclaimed '80s, '90s, and '00s efforts. Although the late-career stuff doesn't display measurable growth in musical skills or songwriting, one could argue that, growth schmowth, the band knows and sticks with its strengths. Pounding midtempo rockers like 1979's "May the Sunshine" come from the same sonic universe as "Thinkin' Man's Nightmare" and "Goin' Loco,," even though they are separated by one and three decades respectively, united by the sputtering, bluesy wail of Dan McCafferty, who has led various permutations of the band since 1968. ~ Paula Carino

$6.69 Soul. Pop. Rock. To anyone who hears the freshman effort from emerging artist Glenton Davis, they will know that these three words are more than just genres. They are ways of expression. Glenton defies genre and stereotype with the disc, saying that he hopes "to make music that is honest, true, and fun. My favorite music is music that speaks to me, that doesn't necessarily try to be anything but itself. With all of the music I create, I try to do just that". Soulpoprocks does this well, for hit singles like "Alone" and "Love Me Too" offer intimate looks at Glenton's views on love and loss. At the same time, they are fresh, a new school take on old school soul. That is what ...

$27.95 The reissue of THE ETHEREAL MIRROR is part of RED's Welcome Home campaign and includes previously unreleased tracks.
Cathedral's second full-length album, The Ethereal Mirror, finds the group experimenting a bit with new sounds on their path to discovering the patented sound they would polish on succeeding releases. Hints of their lumbering doom sound from Forest of Equilibrium characterize songs such as "Phantasmagoria," but for the most part Cathedral picks up the pace and instills a welcome sense of groove into their monolithic guitar riffs. Two songs from the album in particular stand out due to their up-beat tempos: the anthemic opener, "Ride," and the metal-disco of "Midnight Mountain." These two songs aren't up-tempo in the sense of death metal or grindcore, but they actually owe a lot to late '60s and early '70s hard rock anthems such as Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" and Black Sabbath's "Supernaut." Singer/lyricist Lee Dorrian's background as a member of the U.K.'s grindcore movement in the late '80s and the ultra-heavy guitar tones of the group elevates songs such as "Ride" above generic proto-heavy metal recycling. Dorrian's voice sounds unlike traditional rock vocalists as he tries his best to sing despite the grave darkness remaining ...

$10.15 Native Americans (First Nations) have always known that their music glorifies Creator and brings healing to the body and peace to the soul. "I honor the native sounds of my people. May this defuse the darkness and bridge that gap among the cultures on Turtle Island. My hearts desire is to share with native people that God loves them just the way they are and to be proud of their special heritage! I encourage them to walk in forgiveness and speak blessings over those who have hurt them." Our prayer is for this music to serve as a repairer of the breach and restorer of the paths between the First Nations of Turtle Island (North America) and all people groups by honoring their healing instrumental sounds along with enticing sounds of the rain and oceans of our wonderful ...
