St. Elmo's Fire Movie Review Demi Moore 80s style. This is a great 80s movie with quite a few members of the Brat Pack (Estivez, Lowe, Nelson, McCarthy, Sheedy, etc.)I can relate to this movie very well because the movie takes place in the 80s in Georgetown, and I was 18 and in the military at Ft.Belvior Virginia.(about 20 minutes from D.C.)This movie is about the lasting bonds of freinship and how those bonds never really go away even when you move away or seperate from those you know and love. I really got home sick watching this movie in the Military theater, only being in the military for 6 months. By the end of the movie though, I realized that everybody has to move on with thier life or carrer but that doesnt mean that old friendships ever really die or go away. This movie touches base on just about every situation most young adults go through in striving to become a part of the society around them in the 80s, (Drug use, Adultry, Relationships,Crushes,Carrers, etc.)This is an excellent movie about friendship even if you didnt grow up in the 80s. St. Elmo's Fire film
$9.69 In Douglas Sirk's emotionally and visually extravagant final film IMITATION OF LIFE, a life's work of subverted melodrama and razor-sharp social commentary are brought to a resounding and baroque climax. In a role that closely resembles and perhaps parodies her own life, Lana Turner plays Lora Meredith, an aspiring actress and single mother who meets Annie Johnson (Juanita Moore), a black and similarly single and struggling mother. When they move in together, Annie assumes the role of domestic servant and the two women struggle together to raise their two daughters. Annie's daughter, Sarah Jane (Susan Kohner), favors her father whose skin tone resembles her own extremely light skin, and she slowly comes to resent her mother's black identity. Transcending the feminist labeling that IMITATION OF LIFE risked, the film freely mixes Meredith's rags to riches (with ...

St. Elmo's Fire film
$9.69 In what is widely considered to be even better than the Broadway stage musical, this film version of HAIR, directed by Milos Forman, gives a boost to what was, on the stage, a nonexistent plotline, and highlights the already fabulous score with this epic musical. Filmed on location in and around New York City, the main plotline follows Claude (John Savage) a farm boy turned draftee from Oklahoma on his way to Vietnam. In New York, he is adopted by a group of flower children, led by Berger (Treat Williams) and including Jeannie (Annie Golden), who take him on a series of counter-cultural adventures that introduce Claude to hallucinogens and to a flaky but loveable debutante named Sheila (Beverly D'Angelo). Along with this experience come an introduction to issues of race, gender, politics, and war. The performances--both the acting and the singing--are extraordinary, and choreographer Twyla Tharp stages some ...

St. Elmo's Fire review
$33.65 HALF NELSON filmmakers Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden reteam for this sports-themed drama that played to acclaim at Sundance. Dominican athlete Miguel Santos (Algenis Perez Soto) dreams of being a pitcher in the major leagues, and SUGAR follows him from the island to the corn fields of Iowa, where he struggles to realize his ambition.
With SUGAR, filmmaking partners Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck prove that their Oscar-nominated HALF NELSON was no fluke. In following one aspiring young athlete from an academy in the Dominican Republic to minor-league ballparks in the United States, Boden and Fleck haven’t just made one of the best and most honest baseball movies ever--they have also produced an intelligent, humane, and universal portrait of the immigrant experience. Non-actor Algenis Perez Soto plays Miguel "Sugar" Santos, a 19-year-old pitcher who dreams of becoming a major-league baseball star. When Sugar’s newly acquired knuckle curveball begins to find its groove, he is called up to America. But the path to success isn’t easy: Sugar must work his way up from the minor leagues before he is welcomed into the majors. Unfortunately, before that happens, Sugar begins to sense that he doesn’t have what it takes to make it. Rather than let the powers-that-be cut him from the team, he cuts himself and heads to New York City to embark on a new life.
Boden and Fleck pull off something quite miraculous with SUGAR. They have made a movie that retains the spirit of a more classical type of movie while at the same time single-handedly reinventing the sports genre. Unlike most Hollywood efforts, Boden and ...
