4 stars Sexy and well done but too dimly photgraphed at times
Having read the book I was anxious to see the movie and loved the actors involved. I enjoyed it and found it well done except for one flaw-it was filmed so dark at times that it was difficult to see. There aren't alot of sexy movies geared for women and I fell this is oneof them so I only wish it has been easier to view.

5 stars 91/2 weeks
Never heard of Rourke until the wrestler. Thought 91/2 weeks was one of the most sensuous movies I've ever seen. Basinger was gorgeous, soft and engaging. Rourke took my breath away. I've never encountered a more sensitive as well as sensuous man. It was that quality in the wrestler that sent me looking into other movies. I would love to see all his movies. I would love to meet him. The onlycriticism I have is that it's filming was too dark in places and difficult to see.

One of John Ford's most cherished projects, THE QUIET MAN took years to finance but became one of his greatest box-office successes and an enduringly beloved classic. John Wayne stars as Sean Thornton, a retired American boxing champion trying to put tragedy behind him by returning to Innisfree, the bucolic Irish village of his birth. He purchases his birthplace from its current owner, enraging the wealthy and bellicose Red Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen), who had designs on the property. On arriving at his cottage, Thornton finds it being swept out by Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O'Hara), a redheaded vision from whom he steals a not completely unwelcome kiss. After engaging in a subterfuge involving a horse race, some of the locals manage to get the disgruntled Red Will to allow his sister to be courted by the American. But the ...

A man of faith succumbs to a temptation he cannot resist in this drama written and directed by Carlos Reygadas. Johan (Cornelio Wall Fehr) and Esther (Miriam Toews) have been married for years, and live with their children in a Mennonite community in northern Mexico. While Johan and Esther are both taciturn by nature, a moral dilemma is tearing Johan apart--he's been having an affair with another woman in their circle, Marianne (Maria Pankratz), and feels he may be falling in love with her. While the tenets of his faith strictly forbid adultery, his need to be with Marianne seems stronger than the dictates of his moral compass, and though he's confessed his sins to Esther and his close friend Zacarias (Jacobo Klassen), subjecting himself to the shame of truth hasn't buffered his desires. Even worse, after Johan confesses to his father about his lust for Marianne, he's told that he may have fallen under the sway of Satan. LUZ SILENCIOSA (aka SILENT LIGHT) received its world premiere at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. With SILENT LIGHT, Mexican auteur Carlos Reygadas (JAPON, BATTLE IN HEAVEN) delivers an extraordinary, transcendent meditation on love and religion. To capture the innocence necessary to tell his tale, Reygadas ventured to a Mennonite community in northern Mexico, where the inhabitants live like relics from another era. Rather than falsifying his world, Reygadas cast the film with actual Mennonites who speak the German dialect Plattdeutsch, which gives the film an even greater authority--and further establishes a truly original tone. The story concerns Johan (Cornelio Wall Fehr), who is in the midst of a major spiritual crisis. A devoted father, and a husband to Esther (Miriam Toews), Johan has found himself caught up in an affair with a waitress named Marianne (Maria Pankratz). But his connection with Marianne isn't just a physical one; he fears that he's fallen in love with her. The honest and tortured Johan confesses to Esther, spurring a series of cataclysmic events that will test his faith once and for all. From the luminous opening shot--which is without question one of the most stunning opening shots ever committed to celluloid--it becomes ...
