Based on the best-selling book by H.G. Bissinger, Peter Berg's gritty, powerful drama tells the true story of a small Texas town in which high school football is the only thing that matters. Set in 1988, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS opens on the first day of practice for the Odessa Permian Panthers. Under intense pressure and scrutiny from the town's residents, head coach Gary Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton) nonetheless maintains a calm façade. His star player, Boobie Miles (Derek Luke), is a running back with unlimited potential, but the rest of the team is undersized and lacking killer instinct--especially quarterback Mike Winchell (Lucas Black), who's shy and short of confidence, and Don Billingsley (Garrett Hedlund), who is tormented by his father (Tim McGraw) for being too soft. When Boobie goes down on opening day with a career threatening knee injury, the season appears to be over. But Gaines won't give up, and neither will the rest of his feisty players.
Billy Bob Thornton delivers another outstanding performance in Berg's impassioned drama, as do the film's young actors (most notably Luke, Black, and Hedlund). Tobias Schliessler's fuel-injected photography and Explosion in the Sky's electrifying score make FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS an even more spectacular movie-going experience. THEATRICAL RELEASE: OCTOBER 8, 2004 Friday Night Lights Reviews: "The movie's football scenes are both realistic and exciting, with genuine moments of suspense
-- Chris Cronis, Premiere "Imbued with the aching sadness of an end-of-summer's evening, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS has more in common with Peter Bogdanovich's THE LAST PICTURE SHOW...than other American football films..."
-- Ali Jaafar, Sight and Sound "[With] hard-tackling action, this is a solid effort from actor-turned-director Peter Berg."
-- Andrew Sumner, Uncut "[A] stringent, stirring real-life drama....Directed with smart, documentary-style briskness..."-- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly "One of the best football movies ever, NIGHTS in the end celebrates the game."-- Mike Clark, USA Today "FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is uplifting and troubling, partly because it is more honest than most sports movies about the high cost and short life span of high school football glory."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "The FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS team has invested a lot of energy in the authenticity of the on-field action that dominates the film."-- Kenneth Turan, USA Today "Thornton gets inside the coach's skin. It's a subtle, soulful performance..."

LIGHTS OUT! Not the best sports movie I've ever seen, but it's decent. The last half hour is good, the rest of the movie
is pretty boring. Submitted by Lance (Lawrenceville NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
An A-list football movie!! Friday Night Lights is a truthful and superb football film. You can feel the intensity on the field, you can see it through the vibrant and kenetic editing style, and the best part of Tim McGraw's performance is you don't know you're watching Tim MrGraw. The film's soundtrack is haunting and features an echoing guitar that sweeps through the filmscape like a warm texas wind; and then you're punched by sudden flares of rock when you watch the players take the field for their games. Billy Bob Thornton Stars as a coach-under-seige who wants his team of young players to be great by showing them they can be perfect inside. I'm not a football fan but I love football movies. See this film! It's one of the finest football movies ever made!! Submitted by seran_caski (Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

$17.01 The love saga winds to a close as Belinda (Sarah Jones) takes on a new responsibility while accepting guidance from the place she least expected it. Female doctors are a rarity in the Old West, but Belinda has carved out an impressive niche for herself in a small, tight-knit Missouri community. Her best friend, Annie (Haylie Diff), is about to give birth, and Belinda has agreed to monitor her as she carries the baby to term. But for a woman who has always put science first, Annie's folksy mother-in-law, Mary (Patty Duke), isn't always the easiest person to deal with. Experienced nursemaid Mary would rather rely on homeopathic treatments that taking the advice of doctors, and before long the two women are hopelessly at odds over how to handle the pregnancy. Back at home, things aren't any easier--Belinda is having trouble getting pregnant, and it's beginning to have a negative affect on her relationship with her husband (Jordan Bridges). Perhaps if Belinda can finally open up and realize that the solution to her problems isn't always what she thought it would be, she can find a healthy balance between her career and her home life.

| | Pink Floyd - The Wall DVD (1982) Widescreen; Anniversary Edition; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Friday Night Lights review
$14.59 Director Alan Parker's intense and fully realized film interpretation of the English band's classic album THE WALL melds whimsical fantasy with dark Shakespearean drama. The film makes innovative use of sets, costumes, and special effects to create a unique surrealistic strangeness worthy of Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali's UN CHIEN ANDALOU. Both disturbing and bedazzling, PINK FLOYD: THE WALL is a must-see film for any music lover.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of Alan Parker's masterpiece film version of Pink Floyd's groundbreaking prog rock album "The Wall", Columbia has released this special limited-edition DVD of the film. Packaged in a deluxe DVD digi-pak designed to look like "The Wall" with debossed brick work and a clear O-card, the release features a photo montage of film shots and a fold-out reproduction of the original film promo poster. Also includes the documentary "Other Side of the Wall" about the making-of and "Retrospective", an exclusive 45 minute retrospective documentary with interview of Roger Waters, Alan Parker, Gerald Scarfe, lots more.
Loosely based on the life story of Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd's original front man (who was kicked out of the band for his bizarre and disturbing behavior only to go insane shortly thereafter), PINK FLOYD: THE WALL stars Bob Geldof as Pink, a mentally damaged man who has gone from a hopeful child artist to a burned-out rock star drifting away from reality. As Pink festers in his hotel room, elements of his abusive childhood come back to haunt him until he begins to descend into absolute madness.

AMERICAN GRAFFITI presents a powerful collage of youth on the brink of maturity just before the assassination of J.F.K.. Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series HAPPY DAYS. Lucas's second feature film (following THX 1138), AMERICAN GRAFFITI contains an early screen appearance by Harrison Ford, who would figure heavily in the director's next movie, the sci-fi epic STAR WARS. The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day, and Laurie (Cindy Williams), his girlfriend, is upset by his impending departure. Laurie's brother, Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is also slated for college, but he has serious doubts about his future. Also included here are the hopeless nerd (Charles Martin Smith) and the eternally cool drag racer, John (Paul LeMat), who feels pressure to live up to his reputation. A nostalgic feeling is evoked in seeing the teenagers cruising in their hot rods, eating at Mel's Diner, and listening to Wolfman Jack spin the latest hits, with the camera jumping from character to character as they each enjoy--or fret over--their last moments of summer freedom.

| | Drifter: Henry Lee Lucas DVD (2009) Widescreen; Subtitled
Friday Night Lights movie DVD
$21.15 Having admitted to over 300 murders, Henry Lee Lucas was one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. Lucas’s story has held particular fascination for filmmakers and has been loosely told in HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER and CONFESSIONS OF A SERIAL KILLER, but director Michael Feifer (who has also made films about Ed Gein, Ted Bundy, Richard Speck, BTK, and the Boston Strangler) takes a more factual approach with this disturbing biopic. Antonio Sabato Jr. turns in a chilling performance as the adult Lucas, who, after a childhood of poverty and abuse, embarks on a coldblooded killing spree with the help of fellow drifter Ottis Toole (Kostas Sommer).

$162.95 Like a cross between CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION and Darren Aronofsky's indie feature PI, the CBS television series NUMB3RS blends crime-drama with mathematics for a smart and creepy spin on the police-detective genre. Executive produced by Ridley Scott (ALIEN) and Tony Scott (TRUE ROMANCE), the series centers on a pragmatically minded FBI agent, Don Eppes (NORTHERN EXPOSURE's Rob Morrow), who invites his math-genius younger brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), to help him solve challenging cases using mathematical theories based on equations and probability. Dark and moody with a near-cinematic feel, NUMB3RS has won both fans and acclaim for its innovative approach to the conventional crime-drama formula.
