| | Charles Mingus Tijuana Moods CD Charles Mingus Discography of CDs
Charles Mingus has been quoted as saying that this is the best album he ever made, and that's recommendation enough. The second song alone, "Ysabel's Table Dance," is a brilliant blending of Latin rhythms and Mingus jazz that even the most casual listener will find entrancing--10-plus minutes of castanet-frenzied joy make one yearn to see what Mingus and his running buddies encountered in Mexico. (The bassist wrote that he took the trip to Tijuana "minus a wife" specifically to lose himself, and instead found music and sights to inspire a masterpiece.) "Los Mariachis (The Street Musicians)" manages to evoke both intimate moments with its unaccompanied solos and the enforced fun and bounce that street musicians must employ to earn their bread. "Dizzy Moods" doffs a cap to Dizzy Gillespie's own forays into Latin music, and the riff of "Tijuana Gift Shop" sets up a galloping tune that suggests the excitement a tourist feels in any authentic, potently exotic locale.

Digitally remastered release containing the complete original classic 1957 album, which Mingus himself considered one of his best. Featuring an all star group including Jimmy Knepper, Curtis Porter, and the greatly underrated trumpeter Clarence Shaw, who would break his instrument and quit music that same year after a fight with Mingus. Mingus is considered one of the most important composers and performers of jazz, and he recorded many highly regarded albums. Dozens of musicians passed through his bands and later went on to impressive careers. His tunes, though melodic and distinctive, are not often re-recorded, in part because of their unconventional nature. Essential Jazz Classics. 2009.
Recorded at RCA Victor's Studio A, New York, New York on July 18 & August 6, 1957. Includes liner notes by Charles Mingus, Martin Williams and Ed Michel.

| | Miles Davis Kind Of Blue CD (1959) Bonus Track; Remastered
Tijuana Moods CD music
$6.29 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, ...

Tijuana Moods album
$10.05 Michael Buble's third major US release (including the mostly live COME FLY WITH ME) stays on message--this young Canadian loves the lush, swaying music of his parents' and grandparents' generations. Buble's albums, however, are much more than mere back-in-the-day exercises. The production and arranging of David Foster (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) is eclectic in a way that firmly places the tunes at the dawn of the 21st century, and, more importantly, Buble possesses the chops and sense of style to re-imagine the adult-contemporary vocal genre in a distinctive manner. In addition to standards by Gershwin and Porter, ...
