Cross The Styx album
$10.69 Often cited as the first true death metal record ever released (Florida's Death had been around just as long but would only make their vinyl debut a few years later), Possessed's Seven Churches took thrash metal's intensity to new levels of brutality. With song titles like "Burning in Hell," "Satan's Curse," and "The Exorcist" (featuring the famous movie's eerie title theme for an intro), the band definitely displayed a strong Slayer influence; but it was Possessed growler Jeff Becerra who first introduced the barely decipherable grunting vocal style which would epitomize the death metal genre. Among the highlights, "Pentagram," "Twisted Minds," and "Fallen Angel" have best stood the test of time, ...
| | Kreator Extreme Aggression CD (1989)
Cross The Styx CD music
$10.45 On Extreme Aggression, a successful Kreator closes the '80s by delivering their final thrash triumph. With the most hallowed Kreator lineup ( Mille Petrozza on vocals and guitar, Jorg Tritze on guitar, Mille Petrozza on drums, and bassist Rob Fioretti) joining forces once again to follow up the spectacular Terrible Certainty, Kreator sounds determined to continue their thrash mastery on Extreme Aggression. The results are fierce and noisy on this 1989 Epic release -- the first major-label effort for the band. Petrozza and Fioretti's guitar work is as punchy as ever, ...

| | At The Gates Gardens Of Grief CD (2006)
Cross The Styx music CDs
$11.39 Sahg's debut struck a welcome victory for traditional heavy metal -- or modern doom, as some might call it -- by fearlessly worshiping at Black Sabbath's altar, without coming across like a simple nostalgia act or tribute group. Not bad for a bunch of normally corpse painted, Norwegian black metal musicians, stepping away from their regular gigs with bands like Gorgoroth, Audrey Horne, and Manngard in order to bring a fresh perspective into this timeless genre. Naturally, they're not the only ones (2006 alone also yielded Texans the Sword's impressive debut and a second fine outing by Sweden's Krux), but Sahg I arguably struck closest to heavy metal's purist aesthetic, without confining itself to the predominantly creeping tempos (although that angle is certainly represented by intentionally labored power chord laments like "Repent," and portions of "Rivers Running Dry," "Black Passage," etc.). Rather, think back to Sabbath's triumphant releases with Ronnie James Dio, Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules, for the primary inspiration behind Sahg's specialty: moderately galloping heavy metal sorties, exemplified by such as "The Executioner Undead," "The Alchemist," "Soul Exile," and "Boundless Demise" -- all of which owe as much of their appeal to Olav Iverson's soaring vocals, as they do to his shared, stellar guitar work with Thomas Tofthagen. An evocatively gentle acoustic interlude named "Whisper ...

Cross The Styx songs
$10.15 Bent Twig Avenue. Camarillo, California. Gregory "Preach" Christine grew up playing the piano since he was 7 years old. Wanting to pursue music further, while in high school, he decided to turn the extra bedroom into a recording studio. With a little help from life long friend Samson "Soos" Szakacsy they did just that. Having nothing more than an American DJ turntable mixer that Preach got for free from a high school teacher, an outdated demo version of Fruity Loops beat making software, and a $10 microphone BMP Records was born. The duo recorded nearly everyday ...
