Recovering in her home, he turns from patient to prisoner as his savior proves to be psychotically deranged. Romance author Paul Sheldon (James Caan) longs for parting with Misery. Sheldon's plucky heroine of seven novels has delivered Sheldon fame and fortune and recognition beyond the average writer's dreams, but she is also interminably linked to him. Determined to escape an eternal role as dimestore novelist, he kills her off in the eighth novel and heads to his New England cabin to work on his own Great American Novel. Upon completion, Sheldon excitedly sets out for his New York City publisher in the midst of a raging blizzard and within minutes veers into a desolate snowbank. From the brink of death, he is rescued from the snow by Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), who just so happens to be Misery's self-professed biggest fan. At first, she nurses him back to health in her remote cabin, telling him the roads and phones are knocked out by the storm, fawning over his literary accomplishments. However, things change when she purchases his eighth Misery book and reaches the point of Misery's death. Annie's psychotic underbelly swiftly surfaces as the unfortunate author is held clandestinely captive in her home. Meanwhile, a wily small-town sheriff (Richard Farnsworth) circles in....
Director Rob Reiner's adaptation of Stephen King's novel is an eerie tale of obsessiveness and isolation. The film features an excellent turn by Caan and an Oscar-winning performance by Bates.

MISERY is director Rob Reiner's second Stephen King adaptation. The first was the 1986 film STAND BY ME, based on the short story "The Body."

Richard Farnsworth would go on to give an acclaimed performance in David Lynch's THE STRAIGHT STORY shortly before his death in 2000.

 After Dark Presents
Misery, my second favorit story from the mind of Stephen King. Kathy Bates performance was out of this world 100%. Caan performed great as well, the movie was able to capture and stay true to the book and that is what I am most thankful about. I rait this a 5 star raiting, good job

KATHY BATES DESERVES THE ACADEMY AWARD
Kathy Bates was unbelievable in this classic horror film from 1990 which is ranked among one of the greatest horror films ever made. An amazing classic and psychological thriller which employs a female maniac (Bates) who is obsessed with a famous novelist (Caan) and she holds him as a prisoner in her own home. Kathy Bates was the perfect choice to play this role. This is without a doubt the greatest performance of her entire career and she well deserved the Academy Award for best actress. Most of the film takes place in a room where Caan was laying in while he was being tortured by Bates in more ways than one. Great plot, great storytelling, perfect acting, great timing, great feeling, a magnificent ending and tremendous delivery of dialogue between Bates and Cann. This is an overall great film which doesn’t contain the typical horror genre elements and has become more admired than ever. It is always appearing on the top 10 horror movie lists found on the internet. OWN THIS CLASSIC.

Kathy Bates was perfect for her role in this classic suspensfull thriller. This movie always keeps you on your nerves and it's enjoyable and watchable all throughout the film. The actors and the storyline in this film is at its best

Revisiting the teenage slasher movies of the 1970s and 1980s, WRONG TURN is a tense, suspense-packed horror film starring Eliza Dushku (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER). The intensity builds as the inbred, kill-crazy cabin dwellers go after Chris and the campers, leading to some grisly scenes in the dense woodland, and a series of brutal, bloody set-pieces from director Rob Schmidt.
WRONG TURN takes similar backwoods horror flicks like TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and THE HILLS HAVE EYES as its inspiration, providing visceral thrills aplenty, and the requisite amount of dumb teenage characters. Never lapsing into self-parody, the film should appeal to older horror movie fans keen to revisit the movies of their youth, and younger fans eager to witness some modern-day stalk-and-slash mayhem!
